I am new here but in contrast to DP James have found this forum motivating and useful. People explaining how they have spent their grocery money is exactly what I would expect from a 'Grocery Challenge' thread! :rotfl:

Anyway used up bruised bananas today to make banana 'icecream' - delicious! Car passed it's MOT so only the £47 for the test to pay - MOTs can turn into such an unexpected and unpredictable expense so relieved that it passed. Often wonder whether it would be cheaper to give up the car and use taxis!

Totally agree on the MOT thing. Took my car for its test yesterday - they jiggled it for the brakes etc,,,,so a cover sprung free and sliced a brake cable - car had to be removed on recovery vehicle - now have to take taxi to hospital for Dh MRI BUT I did walk daughter to school. Must work out viability of taxiing....mmm

Sorry off topic - now must consider if taxi should come out of spend
    Live as cheaply as possible

theres plenty of advice on here i find the advice fantastic, and the reason for yesterday many posts is its the begining of january and so the begining of many peoples grocery challenge, thats what this is for its for people to keep track of what they spending however mundane the posts may be its keeping that person on track so whether its actually relevant to anyone doesnt really matter its the poster is the one its relevant to! and may i add that its the encouragement and push from other posters keeps most of us on target1 i agree everyone is entitled to their say in these forums but theres a way to say things and i personally found your way quite abrupt and borderline rude, so before you yourself hit the reply button think ...is your reply going to be relevant to anyone either. so goodluck with your gc and i hope you keep on track i for 1 will be logging in to read the inane comments as you so nicely put it. and to all youfellow posters good luck with your challenges.xxx
    thank you and wonderfully put

hi all, sounds like progress is being made! I have been really good and only spent £1.29 so far. I went to the corner shop for milk, and came out with JUST milk!!!!! YAY for me!!!:rotfl:
Hoping to keep going until Monday before I have to do a 'proper' shop, although we are nearly out of fruit, but do have a few tins of peaches, and some sultanas and dried apricots. That with the veg I still have left should keep us on track with our 5 a day!
I need to do a full 'stock take' to see exactly what food I have left, the freezer is pretty full, and there are a fair few packets and tins in the cupboards. I predict some random meals ahead, but hey, it will keep tea time exciting!;)
    mortgage £800 overpayment 2022. £600/£2400 2023 🙂 savings £1853/£1800 😊

  • Good afternoon everyone, just a tally up really. Have spent total of £58.04 so far this week. This should last us until the end of next week, with a little top up of milk, bread, f & v and meat.
I braved MrT with the kids this morning and they were really helpful. They both helped me choose the best value items that were on the list and we stuck to the list, nothing else added:D something I haven`t done in a long long time.
I`ve also decided to put the money I`ve saved from any multibuy items in a seperate pot and see how much I`ve saved over the month. I would have put any money saved on the special offers, but this doesn`t show on the receipt. I might try and remember to do that next time, as i`m wondering around.

When you guys speak of 'Mr T" which store is that? Or is it a store that I've never heard of (probably) called Mr T?

Spent £19.03 today in Te$co, brought mushrooms, tomatoes, cheese, butter, fish and cough medicine.
Will need bread at the weekend and probably some more fruit and veg but that should be it.

HM Meat & potato pie for tea with last of the sprouts, some carrots and sweet corn. Tomorrow we are having fish.
