January 2013 Grocery Challenge

Hello,
I hope I'm not too late to sign up for January, I did the grocery challenges last year and found it really helpful for keeping me on track. I'm now working full time out of the house so need to be more organised than ever.
Can I go for £370 for January please? It's a little higher than I would like but a good place for us to start. I need to sort through our cupboards and the fridge tomorrow morning before doing the weekly shop. I'm quite looking forward to getting back into our routine before we go back to school.CC1 £5999 Total Debt March 2021 £5999

My word this thread moves sooooooo fast.
Hope this will help ImDoingitForMe.
Its called CheapFamilyRecipes and was devised by a member of mse.
Hopefully it may help you to keep to your budget.
It's a brilliant site and shows how you can feed a family of four healthily for £100 a month (obviously works out less for a smaller family) It also has meal planners for all manner of dietary requirements.
I recommend everyone to have a look at it.
Stayed in again today. Not back at work till Monday but looking forward to it just to get back into a routine.
Have a lovely evening everyone

Hi all
Did my first weekly shop of the year today. I really need to keep my food shopping down to under £50 per week for 2 adults and find the best way to do this is to go to each supermarket and buy the offers. Im lucky that in my town all the big supermarkets are in walking distance of each other, so saving money on fuel.
First stop today was Asda and i spent the bulk of my budget £25.47.
In Tesco i spent £3.45.
Hooty's superstore £1.27
Iceland £5.75
B&M bargains £2.96
Total spend = £38.90
I have tried to meal plan this week, although its difficult never knowing what time DP will be coming home.
In Iceland i also got some vouchers after using my loyalty card. Free £1 Pizza when spending £5 and 50p off Chinese Takeaway range, both of which will come in handy next week as i always buy these things.
Hopefully won't have to spend much more on food until next week now. Will probably spend a little bit on top up bits like bread and milk etc but thats all.
Will update signiture.

Spent €13.23 today. Compost bags, a bag of frozen pierogie ruski for during the week, chutney and tinned toms for tomorrows dinner. Got a buy 4 get 2 free on Heinz beans which have been stashed away in the pantry. DH, who should not go shopping with me, popped a small stollen christmas pudding in the basket as well!
Speaking of quorn, having spaghetti for dinner with homemade tomato sauce and some quorn chicken pieces chucked in for good measure. Can't wait.0 -
been sales shopping at last (work has prevented my doing it sooner) and got lots of reduced xmas foodie bargains in co-op - £10.25 spent and meat for the month plus some yellow sticker stuff in marks because i had a £5 conditional spend voucher to use - £26.55 spent a few bits from Mr A for DS makes another £4.78 so my total so far for Jan is £45.16 out of £200 and its only day 3 :eek:Wins: 2008: £606.10 2009: £806.24 2010: £713.47 2011: 328.320

Hi GreenFairy. All our family enjoy the quorn sausages. Especially sliced and added to a tin of chopped tomatoes and a tin of baked beans (cowboy hotpot)
Last time I went in Mr As they had all quorn products on offer at 3 packs for £5
I can't have them because I'm vegan so I have the Linda Mccartney ones.

has anyone ever used frozen swede ?
Yes, I have used frozen swede last year when catering a Burn's Night meal. Served it mashed with lots of ground pepper and some butter, just made sure it was well drained after cooking and it was fine.Philadelphium

Hi guys,
Happy New Year!!
Reporting first spends for January as £13.08 for veg box and £9.44 in Supermarket, signature updated.
For those of you who purchase saving stamps from the supermarket, do you include those as part of your grocery spends? I'm not sure whether to ?? Bought £2 today making an early start for Christmas 2013!
Off to do some reading, this thread has grown by 20 pages since I was last on

Where does everyone get their veg boxes? I'm in Norwich, and I'd like to buy from and help out local farms, but I don't even know where to start looking!
I'm hoping to start growing food in our tiny back garden soon. I already have romane lettuce sprouting from a used root end, a few herb plants and as of today two potatoes in jars with their bottoms in water to make vines to plant in mesh bags. I really wish that we could have a few hens, but since our place is rented, I'll make do with just having two bunnies.0 -
I spent £30.50 yesterday in Tescos. Tomorrow is my main shopping day and with the 4 kids all coming with me to Sainsburys, trying to keep the shop down to about £100 should be interesting. I made spag bol for the girls the other day and have a lot of the bolagnaise left so will make a lasagna tommorow for dinner, thats one less meal to pay for.
I'm finding this all very exciting and Im planning to save at least £200 a month by doing this challenge which will hopefully help pay off our Disney holiday in the summer!0
