Oh and f*ck the environmental aspect of it.
Couldnt agree more :T0 -
so what is wrong in doing 100mph on a clear motorway?
NOTHING, even a modern Fiesta will happliy pootle along doing a ton.
Technology in Tyres, suspensions brakes and handling have all improved over the many years since the current limits were applied.
After a recommendation on here, I test drove a honda at the weekend, that easily could do 100PMH in third !!, Now just working out where I can build a garage to house the thing.
unfortunately modern technology has not improved people driving techniques
most accidents are caused by driver error !0 -
How would you hit it at 0mph? Stop everyone moving at all, that will prevent the deaths.
and, off on another tangent, the design of crash barriers in this country is hopeless. They cause plenty of serious injuries / deaths - better and safer designs are out there, but won't be installed due to cost. So the govt does place a value on a life, despite the rhetoric, and there is an acceptable death rate.
i don't think crash barriers actually cause serious injuries , it's people crashing into them that are the problem , it's the same as dangerous roads0 -
I think it's necessary to consider what the likely risk/speed curves look like. For EXAMPLE: 96 on a lightly trafficed motorway versus 50mph through a residential 30 limit with driveways/parked cars etc.
The OP didn't explain the conditions. Had it been a motorway solid with lorries in LH lane, cars bunched in centre and OP in outside lane overtaking then I'd say that 96 was dangerous especially if someone was likely to pull out of middle lane. If it was a motorway with a lorry or two on it or the nearest car 1/4 of a mile away then I'd not be too bothered. Sure, when you hit something at 96 the consequences are dire, but I'm not expect 70 to be much better either. There's the idea that you concentrate on the job in hand to reduce the risk from doziness, a concept that many seem to miss.
Rather oddly, some of people I see regularly hammering through narrow 30 limits are the very people who'd claim to not speed and this is because they don't actually engage brain; they just slop around everywhere at 40-50mph regardless of road or conditions.
Bottom line though: if you choose to speed then don't complain about being caught.Happy chappy0 -
Ok my final word on this ridiculous subject of how much well-deserved fine/how many penalty points/how long a ban/how many days afraid to pick up the soap in the shower he takes at HMP Twatface will the law-breaking OP receive.
Personally I do not care how small your !!!!!!/how fragile your ego/ how fast your car or whether you care about the environment/don't believe what you read in the papers/can't read. I don't care whether you kill yourself through driving in excess of the speed limit (or frankly driving within it - it will mean an end to this load of trollocks).
You chose to speed, you got caught. Someone will decide the price you pay. End of.
Cottoned on to MSE end July06 - I have seen the light!!!
[blah blah blah} the thing is, if I'm so b***dy brilliant, why am I still broke?

shame it's your last post cos i came on especially to tell you that whilst driving home from work today i was on the phone. I saw a yellow jacket ahead of me and dropped my phone before looking at my speedo. I was doing 40mph in a 30 zone and knew i'd been busted.
Copper waved me over and was a jolly nice gentleman who told me to behave myself as there was a school nearby and sent me on my way. I should have had £100 (at least) fine and 6 points so he decided the price i should pay and it was zippo, nada, nothing, not a bean.
so stick that in your tampax!0 -
