I think there is a cut of point between fixed penalty and being a court job. My mate was caught doing 97 and got banned plus £400 odd fine, but the real bummer was his insurance went through the roof when he had to declare a ban. He fully admits he was breaking the law, but thought that the ban was a bit stiff given his then clean licence, being under a ton, and it was a dry, sunny sunday afternoon on a quiet stretch of motorway. Another colleagu of mine who is a magistrate also though that a ban was a bit stiff. He put it down to being made an example of.0

Given that you already know what speed you were clocked at you must have already had a 'Notice of Intended Prosecution'?
So it's not going to be a fixed penalty or you'd know that by now too
if you have a cleanish licence, you can probably expect £150 - £200 + points unless the beak is having a bad day or has had to deal with a road death due to speeding recently etc. etc. Just make sure you turn up on time & smart & give due deference to the authority of the court0 -
dont the police have anything better to do !!!!!!, 96 on a motorway is nothing, most trafic these days usually sits at 80 on clear days.0

Last time I checked the police guidelines were 80mph to 94mph in a 70 = fixed penalty. 95 and over = court appearance and likely ban.
It may be better to appoint a solicitor, aim for a 28 day ban and get it over and done with. If you aim to get points then it is likely to be 6 and these will then be on your license for 4 years, 3 yrs for totting up purposes.
If you have not had the NIP yet and only think you were doing 96mph then you may be lucky. Your speedo will be over stating your speed, by as much as 10% in some cases but modern cars tend to be 5-6 mph over at this sort of speed. They can never understate the speed btw.
Like others have said, Pepipoo is a good site for info and help.0 -

Wise words, mate
When you say you were doing 96mph do you mean that that was what your speedo said? If so you were probably doing around 87.
To actually achieve a prosecution for doing 96 the indicated speed would be well over 100mph. And getting caught reveals a lack of awareness of surroundings. Can I help?0
