……... In good weather the 70mph speed limit is too low, I'm sure it is being kept at this level to keep the level of speeding fine revenue. The drive to target motorway speeders and changes to law to further punish motorway drivers for speeding (eg prison is now an option for those doing 100+mph) is wrongly targeting people.

Very true….20 years ago I got done 104-108 by a traffic car on the M6, local magistrate did consider a ban but my work reasons persuaded him not to, I got £30 fine and three points. 20 years later, even though cars have changed out of all recognition it terms of handling, brakes and general safety you get more points and can end up in jail!!

Also faster moving motorways would get traffic through faster and have an impact on reducing congestion. So getting people moving a little faster would be a benefit to most people!

I’ve never known why but slowing cars down actually improves traffic flow as anyone who drives past Heathrow will testify

Incidentally Speeding is not a criminal offence (but a civil one like a parking ticket)

    Pretty sure this is wrong
And for your 96mph on a motorway I hope you find a good solicitor and find a technicality which gets you off!

And very sure this is good advice

Well if your in a 30 mph zone I'd say 29.5mph would be appropriate depending on the situation, for example in close proximity to a school I would say wholly inappropriate, you see I have children that walk along pavements...

No-one has ever died at 96mph. Death occurs when the speed reaches zero.

Ah but which would you rather hit the central reservation at... 96mph or 0mph???

How would you hit it at 0mph? Stop everyone moving at all, that will prevent the deaths.

and, off on another tangent, the design of crash barriers in this country is hopeless. They cause plenty of serious injuries / deaths - better and safer designs are out there, but won't be installed due to cost. So the govt does place a value on a life, despite the rhetoric, and there is an acceptable death rate.

depends on your car. mine will cruise at 100 no problem but some start to get shakey and rattle.

  • Funny old world we live in.
Speeding at 90mph+ is seen as socially acceptable.
Lots of advise on well it's 3 points, get Tomtom camera POI's etc etc.

But not to worry - everyone on the road claims they are an above average driver. And if an RTA results in a fatality - don't worry it's only about 2 years in prison tops.

It's all fun and games until someone loses a bo*****.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I got caught doing an average (which means i was definetly doing more at some point) of 97.2mph on a motorway. It was only 2 months after i passed my driving test too (naughty me).

I received a court summons but opted to plead guilty and not go to court. Got 5 points and a £400 fine plus £43 court charge.

dont the police have anything better to do !!!!!!, 96 on a motorway is nothing, most trafic these days usually sits at 80 on clear days.

BUT its breaking the law!! If your not prepared to take the consequences then dont speed!!!

(Yes I do have points - was caught bang to rights!! I have no complaints, I WAS speeding!!)
