grandparents finding grandchildren difficult

I would never allow my child or grandchild to remain seated while I stood! Or indeed while any adult needed a seat. It's just basic good manners for a child to offer their seat to an adult. I'm amazed anybody thinks otherwise.
As a healthy adult, I would never sit down while my 5 to 10 years old child (ie too big to sit on my lap) stands. Also, I have only 1 lap and 3 children.
And I don't think I lack basic manners. FYI, I grew up on the continent; my British husband thinks the same as me.I lost my job as a cricket commentator for saying “I don’t want to bore you with the details”.Milton Jones0 -

I am really interested to know why you think an adult is entitled to a seat over a child, and not just "well thats the way I was brought up".
An adult is much more capable of balancing themselves than a child and yes children do get tired or is it just precious adults who get tired?0 -

Look after all children and protect them yes. Like them all, not necessarily.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

Calling any of them scrotums fits in where exactly?0 -

As long as I do not call them that to their face, and don't treat them that way, does it matter? I call my husband pigface sometimes, it doesn't mean I treat him like a pig.
Again, an attempt at humour that you have failed to understand.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

I fail to see the humour in it, calling children scrotums is a vile description.0 -

What is good manners?? expecting children to give their seat to an adult who refers to them as scrotums.0 -

It's called treating children as intelligent beings; exactly what you appear to admire in continental children. It's the same as restaurant offering crap on children's menu, because many think that it's good enough for them rather than seek to offer real choices and develop their taste.seven-day-weekend wrote: »I can't be doing with having to defend myself yet again. You admire the kids from Spain, yet you seem to feel disdain, at best, for most children.I lost my job as a cricket commentator for saying “I don’t want to bore you with the details”.Milton Jones0
