Hi all,
I accepted a goodwill gesture 4 months ago as i was claiming £450 and they had offered £230. 2 months later i incurred more charges only £60 that i had seen ...rung them and they agreed to refund £60 as goodwill gesture.. again.... however that very same day they had smacked another £60 charges that i didnt know about.
I wrote a complaint letter saying basically if i had known they had put more charges on my account that very same day then i would not have accepted and felt cheated because no-one had told me when i had phoned even tho i spoke to 3 different people (who were all rude may i just add ). They replied saying that it was a goodwill gesture and that was that. no apology or anythin.
I was just wondering now that i have incurred probably another £200 since then whether i should try and claim again?? or will they just say you have already claimed before so tough.??Total Debt left £2501 :Total PPI reclaiming: £2500. Fingers crossed!0 -
It would depend on whether or not you agreed not to do so in future. Some banks require this, some don't. In any event, it is open to debate whether or not they can require anyone to waive any of their rights under the law.
Whilst I appreciate that it can be difficult, if you are reclaiming charges you really should do everything possible to avoid being charged in future.
Please read the Reclaim Bank Charges Help thread. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
I have an account with the Halifax and this month I got another £39 charge (money that should have gone into my account on the 30th didnt arrive until the 31st - it went in on the 30th last month). When I phoned up to see what I could do about this - I was told that it was probably due to the bank holiday that the payment into my account was late - that is sooooooo annoying - its funny how quickly they can take money out of my account immediately but money going in takes days.
When I asked if I could get the £39 charge back (I managed to reclaim all my other charges over the past few years) I was told that the settlement letter I got in February stated that I could not claim back any further charges.
Is this fair/legal? I saw something on BBC news this morning about this subject but they didnt go into much detail.0 -

At present, every bank in the UK has charges for that sort of thing. Your bank is likely to close your account before long (that farce can’t go on forever). You won’t be able to find any bank that allows you to run your account in whichever way you choose. You, getting a new aacount elsewhere, will the same farce start all over again?
Wouldn’t it be much easier, if you changed your ways?0 -

Sanity at last :T
I'm wondering how much longer this thread can continue - how many times have you got to reclaim before you realise it is your actions that are causing you the problem ?0 -

i know ! i know! its so easy for people to sit there and say.. well you should stop goin over your overdraft and i had good intentions to!
However, i had to pay out for a huge vets bill which has put me back in the situation i was in before! its not an excuse .. just life!
and i have already got another account which runs like clockwork never had any charges etc it just seems Barclays make me go round in circles!.. due to the charges i seem to get my account near to out my overdraft and they smack charges on ! and back down to square one!
Thanks for advice anyway.Total Debt left £2501 :Total PPI reclaiming: £2500. Fingers crossed!0 -

The charge is still illegal on the same grounds as it was last month!!
If you are having a problem with money being withdrawn, its worth noting that banks have two ways to count days in a month! They can count forwards or backwards. It sounds like you are getting credited on day -1 (last day of the month) and not day 30. Therefore any payments out of your account should be set to come out on the 1st of the month or day -1, last of the month.
If this is a standing order then you control it, if it's a direct debt the collector controls it. Most companies can move their collection days either directly or indirectly (by changing your billing date). If they are unwilling to change the collection date cancel your direct debit and pay by standing order.hope this helps

It was never illegal. It was unlawful. Will people ever learn to get this right?0 -
