ripoff morrisons

Was in morrisons today doing my weekly shop and saw a great deal on some malibu £6.35 for a bottle best price i have seen it in a long while.

so i put it in my basket and went through the checkout. it was only when in the car i discovered to my disgust that i have been charged £12 for the bottle. i went straight back into the store and went to the customer service desk and ended up having an argument with the counter staff

i asked to see the manager who took me to the aisle and i showed him the sign saying 6.35 it was only then that i saw some tiny writing saying that it was actually for a different product!! it was right in front of the malibu so i told the manager that this was false advertising and i should get a refund of 6 pound. he said he would not do that even tho it was clearly misselling. he barely said sorry and offered to exchange the product which i told him was not good enough.

i have been a regular morrisons shopper for 6 years and feel disgusted with my treatment this afternoon. what can i do about this. can i write to morrisons head office or trading standards? advise please.:mad:

So, the person putting the product on the shelf made a mistake, or the ticket was moved.

Do you seriously believe that Morrisons has a deliberate policy of mislabelling shelves?

Or is it possible that that they accidentally put it in the wrong place?

    Or another customer moved it?

Or even (heaven forbid) that you moved it?

Dont think trading standards would be interested, correct price showed at checkout and you accepted that price.

Might be worthwhile taking a picture if they havent changed it already to show whether the price was directly under the product (which imo is possibly misleading) or the price was off to one side (not as misleading imo).

They should have at least refunded you (which sounds like they offered/did).

    Gve over,

You really are going over the top.

Someone made a mistake, you really didnt need to get the manager involved, customer services would have sorted you out okay.

I can just see you there being 'disgusted and outraged' someone made a mistake, we all make them including you. I'm sure it will teach you to be more vigilant next time. Either at the shelf, at the check out or checking your reciept before leaving the store.

It really isnt worth getting stressedover.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • so you did not read the sign properly and that is somehow morrisons fault and they should reduce the item for you.
  • I cannot believe people would accuse me of stealing or moving signs around?! as if a woman with her two children would do such a thing

there was a big sign next to the product which stated the price as being £6.45, i expect to be charged that price. i don't know if this goes on with other items but it seemed very clear to me what was going on in this instance, if it wasn't my malibu (my treat for the week) i may not of realised and would have been conned

as for the person who said i agreed to the price at checkout, it is impossible to read the small screens when the person checking is scanning items through really fast. i expect to pay the price i see on the shelves, is that too much to ask?

I must admit that when I see a bargain that seems to good to be true I make sure that the checkout staff check the price and tells me as I might not want the product if the price is different.

I agree with all of the above- HOWEVER- I do find that Morrisons often put a different (full priced) product in the empty space where an offer label is. Not just a single bottle/tin etc but the space has been fiiled
I'm really careful in Morrisons now.

Why would you expect to be charged that price? It was a ticket for another item and it just happened to be in front of a bottle of malibu.
I hardly think Morrisons are doing it on purpose to con customers as you seem to imply.

The price was for something else so i cant see how you have a case. Did you not read the advertising that was in front of the malibu ?

Its not a rip off though is it since the advertising wasn't for the product you bought.

Dont even bother TS with it, they have more important issues to deal with.

Morries sell a malibu alternative which is cheaper than the price of a bottle of malibu.
