Well, well, well.
I have 2 accounts with Nationwide, and with one, subsequently closed, I claimed my bank charges and received a cheque for £948.62 (see 'Success stories').
So, I thought, I'll easily be able to ask for the charges on my current, open, account? And wrote a letter stating...
"Thank you for your cheque of 1st November for £948.62.
Although I am aware that this is less than the amount I requested, and despite the fact I cannot reconcile your figures with mine, as a gesture of goodwill, I will accept this lower amount.
However, you may note that I have another account with Nationwide, acc no: XXXXXXXX. I believe unfair charges have also been made on this account, and as per my request for my other account, I request that these are refunded.":A
What do I get back? The standard letter they sent me the first time for my first application that they subsequently lost. Now I have to apply to court again....
Rubbish!
Hi
Can I ask you a question? You had more than one account. When you sent the original tenplate letter did you send £10 per account??
I have recently sent £10 which Nationwide say thay haven't had so have to start all over again. As there are three accounts I do not know whether to send £30 or £10. I would be glad of your help.

Hello everyone, I received a letter from Lloyds TSB on Saturday 21 April referring back to my letter of 22 February, (on the ball aren't they!!) stating that there position hadn't changed regarding my request for refund and they had passed the details to their solicitors. I checked MCOL yesterday and they have filed a defence so it has been passed to my local court, the problem is I live on the Isle of Man and used my Mum's address in England, is she allowed to turn up to represent me if it actually gets to court, does anyone know??0

Hi
i was in debt to the tune of £40,000. I have since, with the help of a debt management company, made partial and full and final settlements on those accounts.
is it still possible for me to claim for all the unfair charges or will that means the settlements are no longer allowed and they will start to ask for the rest of the money.
Hope that makes sense.

I've got as far as HSBC being given time to enter a defence. They have acknowledged the court, and have now sent me an offer for the full amount of charges, minus the interest. I am not being greedy but, as it has cost £120 to file a claim, I would at least like to get that back on top of my charges, even if I don't get the interest. I was wondering if there was a template letter somewhere to write rejecting their offer, as I don't want to word it incorrectly (e.g. the whole 'without prejudice' thing), and also am I entitled in the letter to ask for/ mention the £120 court costs, and would I get the costs back if it went to court. Can anyone help me?0

Bank: NatWest.
Amount claimed: £3698.35
Amount offered: £3207.00
This was ridiculously easy, and I was surprised at how quickly the bank responded with their "gesture of goodwill" offer. However, the sneaky so and so's have continued to rush another batch of charges onto my account before this goes to court, taking me to around £600 overdrawn, which is about £400 more than my overdraft limit. If they hadn't applied these charges, I would still be well within my limit. Naturally, if I accept their offer, the money would go directly into my account, but it would pay off my overdraft first, thus forcing me to pay this new round of charges. This seems to me to be a case of giving with one hand while taking away with the other, and completely negates any concept of a "gesture of goodwill"!
Whilst I would originally have accepted their offer, because of the sneaky way they have done this I am now continuing with my claim through the courts for the full amount.
I'll post again with the results.0 -
My friend has an account with clydesdale finance. They have been charging her up to £22.50 for letters for late payments etc which has amounted to around £900 or something. Can she claim these charges back??
Thanks0 -
You can claim while on a DMP and if you have a look at this thread, there are a few answers there for you.

I have a RBS Royalties Gold account for which they charge me £12 a month, but if I go over my overdraft they add a 'Maintenance Charge' I am assuming this is the same as a Service Charge and I cannot claim for it can anyone confirm if thats the case.0

Abbey seem to be taking their time to provide me all the requested information. The 40 days was up so wrote to them last week complaining that the information had not been sent to me and requesting that they send it to me as a matter of urgency. On Monday this week got a letter back apologising for the delay in sending the information, they have refunded my £10 due to the length of delay. I now have info going back to 2004, they have said they will send the info prior to 2004 as soon as they can. They are getting until Monday then I am complaining again! Suppose at least I got my £10 back!:j Debt free since 31/01/08:j
