Yesterday was my first vist to this site and I'm now trying to claim £1185 from Lloyds TSB for an account I've not used for 2 years. Honestly how hard is it? It seems to good to be true. I've sent the first letter recorded and I guess now I wait 2 weeks for a reply.
I found one charge of £120 in 2003 for a returned DD!0 -
Hi,
I'm new to all this so bear with me...
I have recently tried to claim £2330 in unfair charges back from Barclays who have offered me £1700. Great news.
Do I have to accept that the bank will only put the money into a Barclays account or can I request a cheque so I can pay it into a different account of my choice?0 -
Does anyone know if you can reclaim charges from a building society for default on mortgage payments?
i.e. I bank with Lloyds and have a direct debit set up to pay my mortgage to halifax each month. When I've defaulted the direct debit, Lloyds place a charge on my current account and Halifax place a charge my mortgage account too....... Double Whammy!!!!!0 -
hi , this is my 1st post.......
i am trying to get back £3400 of lloyds, i have sent them the letter to say i will start the court process if i dont hear after 14 days. their 14th day up tomorrow. dont know what to do next.
any advice of anyone please.

Go through the court process - they don't worry about taking your money. Take back what is rightfully yours. Be patient though, sit tight do the court process from your home. Gather all the letter, statements etc, put them in a safe place. Make yourself a calender - dates etc and keep yourself to this schedule.
Who knows maybe you can treat yourself in some weeks to come!0 -
Hello
I've just received my first Cobbetts letter this morning and it's pretty daunting. How did you reply. Any tips and advice you can offer me would be greatly appreciated and would save me involving a third party solicitor for advice. Congratulations on your result.

Started in December 2006 and as of yesterday, was still awaiting a court hearing date as NatWest put in a defence via Cobbetts solicitors. Lots of aggravation and lots of communication since December 06 but today, 20th April 2007, they have paid me £2,321.17, which covers the cost of the claim plus a tiny bit extra. Brilliant result. My advice, don't give up - follow it through to the bitter end. Many many thanks to Martin Lewis for his excellent website!!!0 -

Unless the Barclays account has an overdraft they are trying to claw back from your reclaimed charges then having the cheque paid into their account works in your favour. If you were paid by cheque you would need to wait until it cleared to draw on it. This way you get at your money immediately.
You can ask for it to be paid by cheque though.0 -

The simple answer is that yes you can. Whatever impact that may have on your mortgage and their attitude in future is something you may need to think about though. I dont want to put you off unneccessarily but my personal opinion is that I havent reclaimed anything on my mortgage due to (now) managed arrears built up during seperation from my husband years ago and the financial disasters disasters that ensued. I dont want to jeapordise the possession of my childrens home. Maybe when I am close to paying it off eh
You need to weigh up what impact reclaiming may have on a mortgage and speak to a few more people and get some more advice really. Good luck though0 -

You now need to follow through with your threat and file claim in court. You can do this at your local court building and the staff will help with anything you need to know or you can use the online process at https://www.moneyclaim.gov.uk/csmco2/index.jsp. There is an entire thread dedicated to this process here:

Further there is more information on various stages of the process in the Reclaim Bank Charges Help thread here:

Good luck0 -

Yes you can claim for more than 6 years worth. There are a couple of threads on the CAG website that are worth reading before you start this.
hi what does CAG stand for?0
