He does realise that he needs a new computer but he has no patience and thought that the button he pressed was updating his anti virus.
How much does a MAC cost?

The internet seems to be going alright now but his homepage which is his emails is taking about 10 minutes to load. I attempted to delete his temporary internet files twice last night but it failed both time. What else would be making his emails so slow to load compared to other sites? BTW his emails are with BT Yahoo.
Any suggestions how to get this sorted?0 -
Unless you are into gaming on a PC it's much less hassle using a Linux based operating system like Linux Mint or Ubuntu.
No problems then with virus and update hassles. Just a smooth computing experience with no time wasted. If occasionally you still still need Windows make your PC a dual boot system of say Mint and Windows 7.
Stating Linux is a hassle free experience is misleading.0 -

Explain what happens when attempting to delete temporary internet files - in particular the full text of any error messages.
Do you have another PC you could test the loading time of his email page? It could be caused by server congestion, or something like a very large attachment or corrupted message. How do I add a signature?0 -

Since I last posted she has let me delete temporary internet files.
I am using my own laptop at the moment while sitting in front of his desktop. Will test loading his emails on my laptop, I'll be back in a tick!0 -
Your infection isn't going to be fixed with a simple system restore.
To start with you have no idea how long it has been infected. Trojans and Malware can install multiple copies of themselves. Once a problem is fixed, opening a folder or a file 3 months later can have it present the same issues again.
My advice is to ask questions first...
To start with... who made your pc? For example if it was Dell, they will have a factory reset function partitioned on your harddrive if you purchased the right model. Though you don't want to do this, it is an option to save files, photos etc to an external drive and then just factory rest the whole machine.
I dont get problems (usually) and will still do this once a year regardless.
So questions:
Who makes your PC?
What operating system?
What protection do you have at the moment?
Emails going slow could mean your acting in what is called a zombie network. Are you using a client piece of software like outlook or internet/browser based email?
More questions, sorry.
Do you have a wifi router, is it password protected?
Essentially you'll need something to sniff out malware... if you could get back to me on those, I will then advise on how to detect and eradicate malware.0 -
Ok a little trick. Click start... in run or search type 'cmd' and press enter.
DOS prompt will come up.
Type in without the quotes: "ipconfig /flushdns"
then try mail again.0 -
