Was it Figment? Finding that botnet was a good call.
Malwarebytes found Rootkit.Zeroaccess in local service and network service.
Hopefully the same program will remove it.

    change the homepage

reset IE to defaults under tools, internet options, advanced.

if problems continue, check other sites.

Hijackthis is not on his computer so I have had to reboot it and now I am waiting for her to load and then I will download Hijackthis and run it.

hijackthis is not that important now (but post anyway, it only takes seconds) - you need to get scanning with tools that can deal with rootkits.

You're confused because too many people are throwing different suggestions at you.
How do I add a signature?

    what is it doing.

try safemode - F8 at boot.

if you can get it started up in normal mode, or safemode with networking, there is a list of scanners in post 61, try them all in order.

The final one is a bootcd, which has to be burned as a disc image with something like imgburn.
