You can upgrade the RAM, it can be fairly cheap and easy to do.

    Take a look here: http://www.crucial.com/uk/systemscanner/

I ordered the new RAM this morning and it should be here by the weekend.

How do I make a copy of his computer to an external drive using Macrium Reflect? When I click clone it states "No disks available" in the destination.

you need to do image, not clone - clone will wipe your external disk contents. you also need to create a boot cd when finished.

As already mentioned avast has remote control functionality, as well as teamviewer. Reset IE to defaults if you aren't going to reinstall windows.

I am going to attempt to make a copy of Dad's computer on his external drive this morning. Then I hope to put in the additional RAM.

I haven't a clue what I am doing! I hope his computer works when I am finished with it!

When I attempted to do the backup there now it stated "Backup aborted! - None of the specified backup locations could be written to".

    What have I done wrong?
  • Do you have enough space left on the external drive you are backing up to?

There is nothing on the external drive which is 80Gb. When I look at the properties it shows "Used space 0 bytes" and "Free space 0 bytes".

I thought if I formatted the drive it would work better however I noticed that it states "Capacity: 232GB" but I thought it was 80Gb.

 Sounds ominous. I do hope you haven't just lost around 150GB of data :eek:

Do you have the make and model number of the external drive?
How do I add a signature?
