  • I gave up and opened Amex... I think Barclaycard made their offer not clear on some points and unnecessary complicated.

Agreed, but not as complicated as finding somewhere that takes Amex for a large purchase ...
  • I've just received my first statement. It says my anniversary date is 30 November 2013. Do people think this means my 4% rate kicks in for my statement which will be generated at the end of December 2013?

I can only presume that this is the case which would be great.

Mine says something similar, which would be great as it means the card will align with the renewal of my annual train season ticket.

On the main page for the cashback card it says:
Each year you'll get a 4% thank you bonus on your top five purchases in the month after your card anniversary, no matter how much you spend.
But in the terms and conditions its says:
3.1 By “Annual Statement” we mean the monthly credit card statement which is sent to you following the end of the relevant Cashback Year.

3.2 By “Cashback Year” we mean a period of 12 monthly Statement Periods (approximately one calendar year) commencing with the Statement Period in which you join the Scheme or the corresponding Statement Period in subsequent years.
So although we have cards that have "anniversary" dates at other points in the year - timed with whenever they were originally opened years ago, it looks to me like the cashback year does start when you're transferred over and "join the scheme".

That's great if so, as when I rang them they didn't think that was the case, and gave me a £100 credit so as to say sorry. They later gave me another £10 as it was taking so long for the card to come through. :)

I think the fee has been waived for the first year for many who signed up early.

If this is the case, its yet another thing the customer services didn't know - I asked about the waiver of the fee but was told that was only for new customers and not those that had transferred their card. So far I haven't been charged it.

I also asked customer services about this but they confirmed to me that it is true that existing customers transferring won't be charged the fee for a limited time only.

I have also found this on their website (was mentioned earlier in the thread) which does not specifically exclude existing customers.

It does however say you will be charged in the first month then refunded in the second. Neither of which have happened to me yet. The woman from customer services said I would just be charged the usual fee on the 13th month I.E. I would get the product free for a year.

  • After just over a month I am getting to the point where I am reaching the £120 limit for the first three months at 6%. I've been putting our weekly shop on here and that alone is earning me about £9.90 a time!
