"2. confirmed that you must make 15 transactions in ALL of the first three months, to qualify for the 6% offer."

Are you sure about that? Reading the T&Cs it seems to me that you need to make 15 purchases in a statement period to qualify for the cashback bonus in that SAME STATEMENT PERIOD.

So I thought your original plan was fine

When they exclude insurance premiums, do they mean card-related insurance, or home / motor insurance?

And there's a free cuddly toy! I returned my form ages ago. Perhaps they know they're so slow they're throwing in freebies now to offset the complaints that come in from people that apply now, seeing as they won't be earning any cashback for a couple of months yet...

As for the insurance, one of the Barclaycard reps said earlier in the thread
Cashback is earned at any retailer on all purchases. Eligible purchases don't include cash or cash like transactions such as balance transfers, insurance premiums, interest, default charges, other fees and charges, any item charged to your Cash Balance (such as Gaming or Cash-Like Transactions), refunded purchases and purchases made for business purposes.
Now a purchase of car insurance or house insurance is not a "cash-like" purchase, its a purchase like any other. I believe they mean any insurances sold with the card - so payment protection insurance perhaps?

I know... I'm just quoting what I was told.

Frankly, I don't want to risk it, so I made 15 transactions on it yesterday. I just sent a friend 15 x 1p payments on paypal. Hopefully that isn't a "cash like transaction", but I'll see it on the statement tomorrow.

I understand you get a text when you hit 15 transactions? Someone I know got one, telling them they now qualified for the higher % reward that month.

I'll also send them a message to double check - else, I have until 4th Dec to go and 'buy' things, in a shop! I saw some sweets the other day for 6p.

Agree, better safe than sorry, as so much cashback is at stake. It's easy to split one load of supermarket shopping into 10 different transactions if at a self service till and not holding up people directly behind you

anyone have any updates on whether its 15 transaction for each of the first 3 months to qualify for the 6% or just one month of 15 transactions will qualify for the 6% for that month?

Also, anyone know if the £120 cap is just for the 6%? If the cashback is more than £120, do you still get the 2% bonus as per usual?

Had my first statement through which confirmed that I have qualified for 6% cashback on my Top 5 purchases this month, with the remainder receiving 0.5% cashback. I also received a text message confirming I had made the required 15 purchases to qualify for the 6% bonus this month.

I'm not entirely sure if this is correct, but I would imagine the £120 cap relates only to your 6% purchases over the first 3 months, and you would get additional cashback paid at 0.5% (with a 75k limit per year) for all other purchases.

For Capital One's 5% card, the cap is for ALL cashback, not just the 5% portion. They phrase it "the maximum cashback you can receive in this period is £100".

Well, applied for this card a week ago and have heard nothing, but received a monkey in the post today. I suppose that means good news is on its way ...
  • Hi first post!

I recently applied to the Freedom Rewards card in which they had a promotion that allowed current Barclaycard owners to transfer to the new card.

I was on the Barclays Initial card which had an APR of 30% and today I logged in and noticed my card has changed over and I now have an APR of 18.9%.:j:beer:

My question is, the directdebit that I have set up with my old, will I need to cancel it and make a new directdebit pointing to my new card number? or will Barclays automatically adjust the the credit card number in which the DD is taken and paid to?

The reason I ask this is because the directdebit that shows in my current account references my old card number and I'm paranoid Barclays will try to pay my old card number and making it bounce, and making a mark on my clean credit file!

    I don't trust the banks!:(

Barclaycard automatically change it. They cancelled my previous one and set up a new one, which took payment as required on the due date. They sent me a letter confirming all this after my account was transferred too.
