2% on your biggest 5 purchases every month (as long as over 15 transactions)
    0.5% on everything else
6% on your biggest 5 purchases in first 3 months (max £120)
4% on your biggest 5 purchases on your anniversary month
    £24 annual fee

Sounds like my old pay packet, overly complex so that you never know if you've been paid right or not.

Depending on your spending patterns it may or may not work out better than the Amex 1.25% or the Capital One 0.5% but tiered up to 1.25%
  • It will work out well for me though. My barclaycard is my oldest credit account and I don't wanna close it but you couldn't change card without closing and reapplying before. This way I can make use of my previously redundant card and get cashback and all this possibly without another credit check.

  • Also note the rebranded Barclaycard Freedom now available on the Freedom Rewards card which in my personal opinion was and will still be a bit naff.

They may still credit check you - I clicked on the add it to your account link and it says to come back tomorrow so cannot confirm.

Evidently need to make sure you are going to exceed the £24 annual fee too!
  • Yeah I did say possibly. They may still credit check but I bank with them too and they keep giving me 0% offers so I don't see it being a problem. Is it wrong to be quite excited about this?!

  • Quick update. If you swap an existing card you will not be credit checked (don't know about adding another to your account as I didn't do this). Beware the interest free period is reduced but to be fair Barclaycard are quite upfront about this in the application.

I think it's great they're finally allowing us to transfer between cards again. I'm in the same position, my Barclaycard is my oldest, so I didn't want to close it.

I was quite excited too when I saw this thread! Which one did you go for? I've gone for switch to the Freedom Rewards card, the million different cashback tiers is confusing on the other, and I'm not keen on the annual fee.

With a "freedom reward point" being worth about 0.29p (3500 points for £10 voucher), it's not the best reward scheme on offer, but in stores where they give double (fuel and supermarkets crucially) or triple points, it works out as good as many of the mainstream cashback cards for those who spend smaller amounts. Plus being able to spend the points on things other than the limited number of retailers on the old Freedom scheme is useful.

If you use your card fewer than 15 times in a month:
    · 0.5% CB on all purchases.

If you use it more than 15 times in a month:
    · You'll earn 0.5% CB on all purchases, except for:
o the top five purchases, which you'll earn 2% on every month, except for:
§ the month after your card anniversary, in which you'll earn 4% on your top 5 purchases
§ the first three months, when you earn 6% CB on your top five purchases, unless
    · that cashback exceeds £120, in which case you earn £120.
o Purchases over £75k in annual spend

I genuinely have no idea whether that's a good deal or not, especially when you add the £24 annual fee into the equation. I guess 6% is a pretty big number, but otherwise...

At least with Cap One/Amex I can take out a card, buy some flights and get my 5% cashback - having to make another 14 purchases in the same month to get 6% with this card just seems like too much hassle

Are we basically guaranteed to be upgraded as the interest rate and credit limit doesn't change?
