I have to say, I'd be more concerned about my husband being in a war zone than learning about my son being gay.0

There's a fair bit of 'straight privilege' on this thread.
Not from me. I haven't worn a skirt since about 1985 and most people who meet me assume I'm gay. Not something I bother to correct people about unless it's relevant and I can't remember it ever causing me problems. And it's definitely helped me avoid some unwanted attention :rotfl:0 -

I'm not even sure what 'straight privilege' is so you've lost me there.0 -

But nobody can tell me that when your child tells you they are gay that you would punch the air and go yes, great.
The problem is that happiness or unhappiness are not appropriate emotional responses to someone's sexuality, and not an automatic response by many of us. Change it to "But nobody can tell me that when your daughter tells you they are seeing a black man that you would punch the air and go yes, great." And maybe you will see why yours is is an inappropriate statement. What if this parent was also wanting to sob their heart out, feeling sick and traumatised?
That sort of statement IS made by some people and is usually accompanied by "I am not racist ... some of my friends are black". They might not be BNP racist but they ARE bigoted and secretly they don't want 'that' in their family.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0
