Banking apps are often mentioned as some important factor. Personally, I never needed or wanted to use them, but most (all?) banks have dedicated websites for mobiles where you get redirected to and that offer about the same conveniences as apps. The same applies to autotrader.I had a look on the windows app store this week, as you say the usual facebook, twitter etc is there, but stuff like banking, british gas, npower , autotrader etc were not, not sure I would want to spend around £500 on a device that is not as flexible as the two main rivals it competes against.
I have more experience with bookies and I do know that many apps just direct you to the mobile website. If not, it is usually almost impossible to to find a difference between a browser interface and the app interface.
It is really beyond me why people need apps for the jobs that any browser can easily do. How do they do without apps in their computers?
I don't know what BG and Npower apps do, so cannot comment.0

            Help!
I have an galaxy S. Now looking to buy a new phone, but am stuck between iPhone 5 and S3.
I have always said I would never get an iPhone because the lack of flash annoys me enough on my ipad2.
However as I have an iPad & an iPod the thought of having everything shared & synced with icloud is appealing. That said I have not purchased many apps (quite a few free ones though!) and only a couple of albums. same on android not purchased many apps.
Despite having an iPad I use my phone for browsing the Internet at lot when out and about, hence why I like the idea of S3 as it has the bigger screen. Whereas the iphone 5 only has a 4inch screen which I believe is the same size as my current galaxy S, which I find quite small now.
Do like the look of note 2 but have given up waiting for a release date!
The flash thing is a bug bearer as for example I just went to buy footy tickets on my iPad but cannot choose my seats as the map doesn't appear, it does on my android pad. Grrrr!
Does it make more sense to get the iPhone 5 if already have iPad & iPod?
I am waffling now, if your still reading help an indecisive person choose a new phone!!!
DH has upgraded from the Galaxy i9000to the S3 & loves it to bits, he has fat fingers and has no trouble with this. Also uses it as a sat nav & map (not something anyone upgrading to Apples iO6 will have).Truth always poses doubts & questions. It's true many of my ipod apps direct to a mobile edition of a website, however for instance the barclays banking app, I installed instead of the long process of log in with pin sentry or password, simply enter a 5 digit code and you are in, in fact I use it more than the pc version, halifax and lloyds are still a log in process but the only feature the app seems to offer is locating an atm or branch, the energy apps i found the BG more useful than npower , I'm now with scottish power and there is no app (but I save a few quid) , but as said the 'necessary' apps were not available on windows it seems which is a shame as I do like the form factor of the Nokia and the 4 4s over the nexus and s3. Sadly Sony seem to show handsets and then not release them into the UK, the Acro S and xperia V being 2 of them, the V would have been right up my street with decent spec and camera.0

It may be just me, but I don't understand why security can be much weaker for mobiles than for PCs. I think this would encourage me rather not to use the apps than to use them....for instance the barclays banking app, I installed instead of the long process of log in with pin sentry or password, simply enter a 5 digit code and you are in, in fact I use it more than the pc version,0

I don't believe the security is weaker, just that I have my mobile device with me more than my pc. Eg if I wanted to log onto my barclays on the pc, goto website, enter 12 digit code, enter user name enter password enter 2 characters from memorable word, however on the handset, goto app, enter 5 digit memorble pin and I'm in, most of the time I just wish to check the balance and pingit shows that too.
However it is all about the convenience with a lot of the features, most of the time nowadays the pc is used for accessing a couple of forums and playing online chess (oh and the dodgy sites) but day to day stuff the mobile is the 1st call for weather , news , photos, time communication and other things :cool:0

Galaxy S4 is coming out in March apparently... I will wait for it and see. If the prices of S3 go down I may be tempted too.
Just go for a phone you like the most.. I cannot coment on iPhone5, but from currently available smartphones the Galaxy S3 is a clear winner.0

The S5 will be out after likewise the ip6, it's not so much about waiting for the latest, but taking the plunge and buying a device that suits.
This is how technolgy has advanced (bar the apple picture taking quality)
an SE K850i (no regrets owning that) vs SE Xperia Ray
naturally the Ray does so much more in more or less the same or less space.0
