I didn't think the ICS had been released officially yet?
Don't really want to risk messing with an unofficial download because I'm not very good with technology.Ageing is a privilege not everyone gets.

Put SD onto PC so it is seen as a new drive, its probably already formatted but do it yourself to make sure its good, not quick format, the full thing.
Unzip the zip contents straight onto SD, eject the SD.
Turn off fastboot in phone settings. Make sure at least half a charge.
turn off phone, install SD.
Power up phone firmly holding both sides of volume rocker down.
Stuff should start to happen then phone will reboot into ICS - 1st boot takes a long time.
Done.... Later on remove the files from the SD card to avoid accidentally reflashing and use to put your music, movies etc on.
Put in non voda sim card, when it asks for unlock code put in your code.
Start playing! £70 phone on latest Android with a specification not far off an Iphone4.
Sillygoose - you are an absolute star. Many many thanks.
All I need now is for my beloved Stoke City to beat Sunderland and my day will be complete :rotfl:

Not officially released in the UK but it has been officially released by network operators in other countries.
I would be reluctant to install someones customised ROM although some are quite good they are still amateur hacks. The unchanged V940 version I pointed to is an official release by the Belarus Operator Velcom - you will see the logo on boot up. It is otherwise unbranded so even better.
Now why Vodaphone have held back, they issued a version of ICS and promptly pulled it is debatable, it may be technical but many think its more to do with marketing, Huawei have had versions of ICS for G300 for a long time.
It is possible its because Voda found bugs in ICS but it should have been fixed long ago - the only bug I have ever found in V940 is a small problem with the built in spell checker but there are fixes or you can turn it off.
Personally I think Voda know how popular and good the phone is, how its cheap and so easy to unlock and if they make it easy for people to update to ICS its going to make a lot of other phones they sell look outrageously overpriced as what more do they offer?
I do think ICS is worth it, its flexible, memory management is excellent (don't need app killers) and I am getting fantastic battery life (don't need battery saver apps)0 -
This has been such an informative and helpful thread, I'm learning far more than I expected about using my G300.
After downloading some free apps or using Favourites, I can use Skype, read newspapers, check the next buses from a local bus stop, listen to the radio and plan routes using wifi. I've only done this at home so far (thus using my own broadband service) and I assume I can do this when out and about, including abroad.
My questions:- which of wifi and internet data (if either) is likely to use more battery power?
- if I find a wifi hotpsot abroad (for example in Switzerland or South Africa), will I be able to make Skype calls, read UK newspapers and listen to UK radio without charge?
I wouldn't worry about battery but cost! wifi is free, mobile data costs unless your SIM contract includes data allowance. Even then it costs if you go over your allowance. Using mobile data abroad (including Ireland) can bankrupt you as the charges can be horrific - SMARTPHONE USERS switch OFF mobile data before getting on the plane and leave it off!!!!
Yes if you find a wifi spot you should be able to skype home, read the papers, some like the BBC News App download news so you can read offline later.0 -

I feel so stupid but need to ask - if I'm at home doing things on my phone does it automatically connect to my broadband? Will it cost extra on top of what I pay for internet for my PC?
If I need to use it outside the home can I use it just as a phone with my normal PAYG phone sim card in it.
I haven't quite made it into the 21st century yet you see0 -

Once you have connected for the first time using your BB password, then yes it will connect automtaically after that. Will it cost extra on top of what I pay for internet for my PC?
No it won't.If I need to use it outside the home can I use it just as a phone with my normal PAYG phone sim card in it.
Yes but you would be advised to make sure you have a PAYG sim with a data plan. Remember to have a look back at your original thread where I answered some of these questions for you.

Thanks Jem - not intentionally asking the same question on different boards to irritate you very helpful people. I've been finding it difficult to get my head round wifi, broadband, wireless connection, and the more I read the less I seem to understand (I'm getting there now though).0 -
No problem. Just really to remind you that it was there and hopefully was useful to you.
Have you bought the G300 now?
I'm trying to order it now from Very - I tried yesterday but their website was having problems. I want to select the Collect+ (I have a local collection point) but can't find how to delete the delivery charge and substistitute Collect+. Can anyone tell me if they did it please?0
