I went through the site, placed an order for the phone and in effect opened an account in one go without delay. (whatever mechanism they use for credit assessment just waved me through). Others have had issues as you will read on this thread.
Although you are opening a 'credit' account, you don't need to put the phone on credit you can just pay at checkout in full at the same time.
don't forget to clear your cookies and go to Very via a cashback site such as Topcashback for several quid more off.
I will probably close the account shortly now I have had the phone.
Thanks for the info. I mustn't be as good a credit risk than you:mad:
The code wasn't accepted so I didn't place the order. I then got a email from them confirming I had registered to shop with them online.....presumably only to pay upfront!
I am not ordering with them if they don't let me use the voucher ... Asda have it for £80.
If they give me the credit I assume I will have to go through Topcashback again.0 -

So do you enter the code at checkout, which then take the £30 off and then you are able to pay for the phone (say with a debit card)?0 -
I just opened a credit account and then tried to pay in full using the code.
The system wouldn't allow me and requested that I call CS.
CS said I needed to use the credit account to pay which I did online and the order was processed.
I chose a morning delivery for next Thursday, I hope they're reliable!
Anyway, big thanks to OP0 -

Yes thats how it went for me, no calls or anything. Basically they took the full £99, took the £3.95 postage separately then instantly credited back £30.
I used my 1% cashback credit card so another 70p for me0 -

I entered the code at checkout and they wouldn't accept it saying the code was for new credit account customers only so I didn't complete the order.
I am a new customer but I assume they have to do a credit check before a credit account is given. It appears some people get it instantly and others have to wait!0 -

I thinks it more flexible and looks a bit more modern less garish, I also find it fast and responsive.
Does anyone use AppKiller type software? Which ones have you found best?
I use Advanced Task Killer on other phones but its not necessary at all on ICS as it seems to manage memory very well, if you really want there is a setting in the developer section like a built in auto app killer, you can set your own maximum apps in memory, or even tell it to kill every apps as you finish with it. Again not necessary, doesn't seem to slow no matter how many apps you opened.
What other apps have people found particulalrly useful for this phone?
I replaced the stock sms apps with Pansi SMS (lame name!) but brilliant program, it makes sms more like 'traditional' sms which I prefer.
Replaced the stock phone dialler with XPhonePro which is superb!, has its own easier to use contact book.
Opera mobile browser works well and looks wonderful on the G300's great screen. No need for any other browser.
ICS stock widget doesn't have mobile data control any more and I like to switch it off. Power Toggles lets you design your own toggle bar, I have 3G, Wifi, GPS, Bluetooth, Camera light (torch!) and screen brightness on mine.
Smooth Calendar - lovely widget that shows upcoming events in a 4x1 screen area.
MX Player Pro - video player. Plays anything really well.
ES File Explorer is amazing, within it I can browse all the way from the root of my phone to files on my Network Drive. No more swapping SD cards or plugging in usb, moves stuff on and off my phone from the NAS drive over wifi - effortless!
Kaiten Mail for email.
Tom Tom Android Satellite navigation.
and on...and on.....
I've just ordered a micro SD card and I'm considering rooting and upgrading to ICS. However, I'm finding it hard to fault the phone as it is. So if it's not broken.... ?
You can still do plenty as it is, only upgrade if your happy with how.
you do NOT need to root to upgrade to ICS. After upgrading to ICS you would have to root again using a method for ICS, I had a few issues doing this but got there in the end. Really I have only used the root so far to fiddle with some of the stock system apps, removed a few and added a few that needed the access. Nothing essential though so you may not need to bother.
I'm going to order a case as the phones pretty slippy and I don't want to drop it.
I got THIS simple (not flashy) case, fits very well and in White really suits the phone. However I have been tending to leave it off. The G300 has such a big screen and these cases inevitably add a bit of a lip around the front of the phone, it annoys me a bit as it gets in the way of touching the screen or swiping to the edge.
I'm also looking for a bracket for the car and a FM transmitter. If anyone has any recommendations re these, they'd be most appreciated.
My phone is in my belt case most the time as I have a bluetooth system and a sat nav system so can't help with that one.0 -

Well I am 500 years old with a half paid mortgage and in true moneysaving style no credit whatsoever, all credit cards paid in full every month (takes at least 450 years to get in this position)
So I suppose I am a credit check wet dream.0 -
Android wise I love the bus app (can't recall what it's called....UK Bus times or something basic with a yellow sign) - costs about £2 but well worth it (argh I remember - catch that bus)...
and you MSE mommies have to get Cozi app...for organising the family (the free version)

Think I've sorted the Internet prob, but no joy with call waiting.
I've not bought an SD card, is it recommended then?
My Quidco didn't track. Grrr.Ageing is a privilege not everyone gets.

The phone has arrived
I've ordered the unlock code (mentioned in post 441) and a 8GB microSD card from eBay
I presume I do the ICS after unlocking? Do I d/l the zip file onto the SD card using the phone or my PC ... or doesn't it matter??
I've not paid for it yet and can't check as the Very website is down.
How do I go about getting cash back (was it top cash back?) as well as my £30 off (already approved) or am I too late for that now?
Sorry - so many questions!0
