    hi there,
my friend has a cpw o2 contract for around 3 years now. It is about to cease November this year. My friend called their upgrade dept and they offered him the usual 35GBP a month 18 months contract with 600GBP cashback in 3 installments.
My friend is a overseas national and he is about to leave the UK for good. is it possible for him to transfer the contract on to my name (also the Direct Debit) and i still claim the cashback? Have any of you done the transfer of contract on to different name and still got the cashback??? can you please quickly confirm me this.
If a transfer is possible how to do it? my friend lives in Scotland while i live in England. so it is not possible for us to go to a CPW shop....however any signatures and proofs of forms, my friend is happy to provide me with.
if the xfer is not possible my friend would like to say no to the upgrade and have to end the contract within 10 days.....

    quick response is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Baldude

    Thanks for quick response.
As i said, my friend is ready to confirm the transfer in writing.
Is it permitted, if so what is the procedure.
My friend called up the CS of CPW and they advised him that they will send a letter to which he needs to put a sign and attach a photocopy of his passport and then that letter is forwarded to me on to which i put in my name, my account details and stuff and i need to agree for a credit check blah blah blah....but end of hte day the doc CPW promised to send never turned up.
    can anyone please advise.

I see. Well, as you will see from posts here, CPW are not best at providing written detail. I have to say that I don't like the sound of it. I wonder whether the transfer you mention may be simply an agreement for you to have the number and a contract of sorts. It could be that you would start a fresh contract and that this would not include the cashback elements that you have mentioned. I would be very wary of this unless full detail are presented to you in writing. For myself, I have to say that I would not dally with it.

Thanks a ton Steve. The forthcoming complications are clear to me. I would better to back off this deal(xfer for contract, let my friend discontinue it rather). Thanks for your advise.

My friend Just confirms that he spoke to their CS redemptions team ann they confirmed that the Xfer of contract to another person would still valid the cashback claims. He also asked them to put a note on the account and they duly did. can this be trusted and should I agree for this takeover? The deal is really tempting me. Please advise.

Yes, I agree that it is tempting. However, unless I have it in writing then I simply am not happy enough to proceed. Others on here will testify that CPW keep to their word, whilst others, including myself, will say that it seems unlikely.

Have you requested that they state their intention in writing to you? If not, then do so without delay. Ask them to email you with the detail and be sure that the detail is clear if they do email you.

Thanks Steve. Yesterday, i went myself to the CPW shop to find out if this works out. Shockingly it DOESNOT!!!I was told by the CPW shop that when teh change of ownership occurs i actually execute a new contract with them 12 months or 18 months. and I DO NOT inherit my friends' account.
You were right from the beginning Steve. Now I bid a final goodbye to this thought. Now i dont find the offer tempting but I become more cautious with all these.
    Thanks once again.

Yes I thought it might be the case that a fresh contract would ensue, and that in fact, you would simply be inheriting the telephone number. Not what you had in mind of course.

The problem with CPW and other companies too is that different advisors give out different advice, and therein lies the problem for the customer. The only way to allay any fear on the customers side is for CPW to provide full details of the offer on paper. That way, if it all goes wrong at some point later, then you have the piece of paper that says exactly what the deal is. Basically, the rule is that if they wont write it down for you, then do not accept any offer and be suspicious.
