CPW O2 Retentions Thread

They certainly didn't offer me anything like this. I was told the best deal were cashback only. This was talking to the loyalty department and not upgrades. (Upgrades dept couldn't even offer cashback deals!)
I got the free 12-month deal via automatic credit as what sh0a1b said as well. You have to speak to the cancellation department...they are the ones who can offer this kind of deal.0 -
I think by "Loyalty Department", mbailey, did mean Customer Retention (which you call "Cancellation Department").
Mbailey said that s/he'd already tried the "Upgrades Department" which had been unable to offer any cashbacks at all.
Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:
As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.

To put it at its simplest, if we compare the £35 a month redemption deal you talk about with the type of upfront deal that sh0a1b has kindly told us about, you would, in effective comparison, be "lending" CPW a minimum of £245 and, in all probability, £280, for eighteen months (this being the amount of money that you have to advance before getting your cashbacks - if, indeed, you even do receive them, which is another matter again). Well at 6.5% interest, that's £24 you've lost over 18 months, even at simple (let alone compound) interest. Deduct that sum from your £40 and you're left with a saving of just £16. But, in reality, the interest is compound, not simple, so the £16 difference is more than wiped out.
Yes compound interest does have an affect, but it is not as simple as your sum suggest. For a start I am not loaning CPW £245 for 18 months. I am loaning then £35 for month 1, £70 for month 2, £105 for month 3, etc, which if you calculate over 17 months comes to £16.74 (using your 6.5%).
(I don't think 6.5% is a valid rate to use, as most cash ISA's are around the 6% mark today. If you were to compare a non ISA account, then with income tax as well, this would be alot less, so the £16 could easily be down to £10.)So, when all's taken into account, the man who takes his (apparently larger) cashback by redemption actually saves less money than the man who gets his cashback as an upfront credit to his account. And that's before you even take into account the hassles that do (and the even greater hassles that can) arise from a redemption deal.
Put it simply I 100% agree with you that 100% upfront cashback deals are the best option, but the problem is, these are not always on offer. Certainly from previous discussions on this thread the best upfront cashback (or reduced line rental) deals that i saw being offered left you paying £5 per month still.
When I spoke with CPW last week, I think the cheapest deal I was offered was around £10 per month, not even the £5 as mentioned by others.
I fully agree that cashback deals come with many hassles, but in my view that is part of the risk you are accepting to get the best offers. At the end of the day the cashback deals are only available, as they hope a percentage of people will forget to claim the money back. I just make sure I am not one of those...
What I really do hope is that this thread does not now degenerate into a squabble between the merits of upfront cashbacks as opposed to redemption cashbacks argued by people who don't understand how compound interest actually works.
Let's, instead, keep each other advised and up to speed with all the various options that can be extracted from Customer Redemption at CPW and let everyone make up their own mind about which one they would most like.
In order for people to make there mind up, then I think it is fair to try and show the true picture of different options. As you have shown compound interest does have an affect, but not as large as you are indicating.
If the deal that sh0a1b has posted is openly available to all customers, then obviously this is much better than a cashback deal.
Certainly my reading of this thread for the past couple of months suggests most the deals are cashback and not upfront deals.
As for my own case I agreed a new deal verbally last Thursday, so I am currently in the 7 days cooling off period waiting for the paper work to arrive. I have already emailed CPW asking for confirmation of the deal, so I will have to see what turns up.
If nothing turns up, then I will ring them again and try and negotiate something better.
Some how I doubt they will offer me a deal with 600 mins, 400txt, free internet with 100% auto-credit...0 -

The different departments seem to call themselves different names. When you phone up you have the option of "Upgrades" and that takes you to the "Upgrades department".
You also have the option for "Cancellations and PAC codes" and that actually takes you to the "Loyalty" department.
From CPW perspective I am sure "Loyalty" sounds alot better than "Cancellations."0 -

I was hoping for some advice. Phoned carphonewarehouse today on the number above hoping to get a retention deal. I've been on contract on a phone I bought from E2save for the past year. When I gave them my number, I was initially told they couldn't find me on the system. The customer services agent then switched to a different system, located me on there and told me I had to ring O2 directly. I've done this, but they don't offer any cashback deals. Is there any way I can get a CPW retention deal or am I going to have to cancel and buy another phone?
Thanks0 -
The number I use for O2 Carphonewarehouse is 08701117200.
This number is free when calling from a O2 phone.
When you ring thing number go through to disconnections and select the option to request your PAC code. This puts you to the loyalty department. Tell them you want to leave O2, but you might be tempted to stay if they can make you the right offer.
Good luck!0 -
I've held on a week before announcing this, until my final £88 cheque cleared....To be honest...Ive had no problems with E2save...even after putting the wrong number on my first claim form...but having said that, i sent the last four claims by special Delivery, with consequential loss....(£6 a go)
I wasnt expecting the final cashback to be paid as CPW Loyalty had started my new contract two months early(the lying cheats), and messed up my bill sequence, and although they promised to put it right, my final bill was bill number 3 instead of 13 and the tariff mentioned on it was not the correct one...so I didnt expect the cashback would be paid, although as CPW and E2save are the same company, i felt condfident that a judge would have said that they could have sorted this out themselves...
Luckily it doesnt look as though the person who checked my bill, did it thoroughly and the cash back was processed....and cleared
I cant be bothered with this stress any longer, so after 6 years of free phones and calls, I've opted for a sim only deal of 600minutes, 1000texts with a 200 extra minute bolt on, for 24 months at £10 a month....and with this many minutes i can now do away with my house phone...
Thanks to Quentin, mobilejunkie and Lynsey for their help and advice during my year with E2save....and thanks to the lovely EmmaC for all her help and confidence boosting, and more..................0 -
If you do away with the house phone you would lose your internet connection?0
