CPW O2 Retentions Thread

I asked for a confirmation email as has been suggested on this thread numerous times, however, the operator told me that CPW have a new policy that they do not email the details out as this service was often violated. Not sure how, but that's what he told me. Have to wait for a welcome pack to arrive in the post.
I imagine if you ask them to send you a confirmation email they won't bother, too busy selling phones and retaining customers.
However, if you email them after agreeing the to contract (via their contact us page), they will respond. Thats how I did it.0 -
Then you should be suspicious as this is what they told me. However, they did send an email, but still it was not satisfactory enough as it was ambiguous and did not refer to all of the point I needed referring to.
No welcome pack ever arrived, and I doubt that it would have. I cancelled during the cooling off period anyway as I just didn't trust it.
You'll note from my previosu threads that I too emailed them and the answer was a bit wolly. So then I re-emailed them back asking very specific questions. So as far as I'm concerned all issues have been covered. Wouldn't that be sufficient from a contracts point of view?0 -

Yes it would be sufficient, if, when they responded to your email the original email you sent was attached for reference to the points you raised. The retentions guy I dealt with stripped off my email whenever he did manage to reply to any that I sent him, and therefore he could have been talking about anything!
I have also noted that when a contract ends with CPW that they smartly retain any funds/overpayments already drawn from your account. For example you pay in advance forline rental, but if your contract ends, as my two did, before the end of the month for which I paid upfront for, they retain the cash. Apparently you have to go to the trouble of phoning them to get them to credit your account with the residue. A nice little earner if this turns out to be so.0 -

On the first point, in my case, the whole email conversation was kept in their replies. But their responses where full enough to not need refering to the orginal emails anyway.
On the second point, I'll have to wait and see when my contract rolls over to see if they retain any funds they shouldn't do. That is out of order if they dont automatically refund any balances owing, perhaps even illegal!
Only excuse they could have is that any overseas calls may take longer to shown up and that they'll clear the balance once any charges are confirmed.0 -

My first contract ended on 14 July and was paid up to 22 July. The second ended 5 August and is paid up to 14 August. I have received no refund for the unused days from either contract and I suspect that I won't until I tell them that I know it's due.
On a brighter note, I have received the final cashback on the contract that was changed prior to its natural end date. However, the final bill on that contract shows a different charge (£36.19 instead of £30.00) to the previous 11 months due to them changing the contract before I revoked and cancelled it. So they will need to adjust it so that I obtain £6.19 plus the remaining days that I have paid upfront for.0 -
Sorry this is long but I've tried to cover a lot of ground in one posting in the hope of being constructive, for the benefit of all of us.
Please could people give some clear input into exactly what it is they have managed to negotiate and get confirmed by CPW O2. Vague and unspecified postings only make the picture more confused. And that's a disservice to everyone.
Boy was that a long post! But I do agree with you that alot of the deals people poste do tend to get lost in the thread.. but what can we do to overcome that? The way the forums are made is too difficult to accomodate this.
I did post that I worked out how they calculate the non redemption deals.. but not had much reply to that post:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=12730205&postcount=534From what I gather the non-cashback retention deals consists of the following:
1. £15 loyalty discount on the tarifff
2. 1 free bolt on (+200xnet mins/unlimited txts/free o2-o2 calls/maybe long weekends?)
3. Txts on the advertised tariffs may be doubled too
I may be totally wrong but these are their current tariff offers:
On 18 month tariffs:
Inclusive minutes/messages:
75x/125 txts = £20
200x/200 txts = £25
400x/500 txts = £30
600x/500 txts = £35
1200x/500 txts = £45
3000x/500 txts = £75
+ £5 if you take a 12 month contract (free bolt on may not be available)
- £5 if you take a 24 month contract
for the tariffs over £35 you may get an additional free bolt on
eg I got the 18 month £20 (-£15 loyalty) + o2-o2 calls + double txts = £5p/m
Lynsey got the £25 tariff reduced to £20 (24 month contract), less £15 loyalty, 200 mins bolt on and double txts = £5 p/m....
Texts do get doubled and a free bolt on is offered, long weekends addon is not included, and all bolt ons are active from month 2Option 2 - permanent monthly discount on line rental. So far as I can make it out, the best anyone has managed to get on this one - without all that "sending-in-the-invoices" business - is an adjusted line rental to £5 a month for two years, with 275 cross-network minutes a month.
Is that correct?
By taking a 24 month they would have recieved an additional £5 off.. but as I found out the miniumum they will allow is £5p/m billed, no total freebies! This individual should have been offered the £25 tariff which would have given them the same deal Lynsey was offered... ie 24 months: 200mins/200 txts (doubled to 400txts) + 200mins bolt on for £5 p/m = 400mins/400 txts
looks like they infact missed out on a better deal!SLC: £13000+
Quidco: £131.24 (paid) + £0 (validated) = £131.24
Valued Opinions: £75 (paid) + £52.30 (received) + £4.50 (pending) = £131.80
StudentPanel: £250 -
Thanks, z4kir,
I know it was long but, after 30 pages, too much confusion and woolliness had crept in and I was trying to sort of pull everything together into one place, so that everyone had a clear head about what's achievable and what isn't.
Different people will want different variations and different mixes of benefits.
To me, personally, and for my own preferences, the greatest all-time deal was nell2 negotiating 400 minutes, 100 texts and unlimited Internet for 2 years at £5 a month. I would leap at that! She's a star player! :T
Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:
As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.

Some idiots here are even rejoicing in the fact that CPW has offered to let them wait a full eighteen months before claiming back any money!
Come on - everyone posting on this forum is here to help each other. Calling fellow posters "idiots" isn't fair.
Yes I mentioned that fact that CPW said the cashback could be claimed after 18 months if you wanted, but I also made the point that I would be claiming as soon as i was allowed to.
The main point about cashback deals now is that the T&C's are alot better than they were a few years ago.
Cashback deals will always give you better deals than any upfront cash back or line rental reduction. You just have to decide if you can afford to pay the line rental up front £35 per month before getting the money back every 6 months and if you can be bothered to goto the post office once every 6 months to post the letter.
I've been doing cashback deals for the past 5 years of 2 phones and never had any problems. I just set up reminders in outlook when I setup the contract so I know when I need to send the bills and so far no problems.
For my cashback deal the saving over a upfront deal is £60, so even if you take £20 off for 3 lots of Royal Mail Special delivery and a few envelops, then £40 saving is worth it.0 -
If you want a totally free deal, CPW o2 offer:
75 x-network mins + 125 txts
£25 per month for 12 months
with £300 auto-credit on your account within 28 days.LL.B (Hons)0 -

They certainly didn't offer me anything like this. I was told the best deal were cashback only. This was talking to the loyalty department and not upgrades. (Upgrades dept couldn't even offer cashback deals!)0
