Why didnt you do what I and a few others did? Email CPW and ask them to clarify in details the T&C's of the contract?

Both emails I sent where answered with 24hrs and so I have all the written evidence I need.

I did do that. I had the email address of the retentions guy and I instructed him as to how I wanted his reply to read. Unfortunately when he replied to me I noted that my message to him had been stripped away and the information contained in his email was ambiguous and it did not refer to the two numbers specifically. I do not regret having cancelled the two contracts. As I said earlier, if a company makes me an offer but doesn't want to write it down on paper, then I am suspicious of their true intention.

I used to be a purchasing manager at a large company and so I'm well used to contract detail and my experience in that role taught me well. I never got into contract strife due to the fact that I was fastidious about detail.

I'm reading a book called "Everything is Negotiable" by Gavin Kennedy.
Do you rate it or can you recommend better?!

I don't know that book. I didn't read any such like books.

I'm just naturally cautious with contracts and unless I get it written down in the way that I like to see it, I simply walk away from it. If the other party is intending to be true to their word they will not hesitate to write it down if requested to do so. I really dislike setting up contracts on the phone. It's just far too risky when dealing with these often faceless entities.

Mobile phone contracts, especially those with a cashback element are well known to be fraught with difficulty and bad practise.
  • CPW just offered me:

    Online 30 tariff
    400 mins
    1000 text
Unlimited web bolt on (instead of 02 to 02)
    No new phone
    18 month contract
    For £10 a month (£20 a month discount)

I don't think this is brilliant. Good, but not brilliant.

    What do you guys think?

Was this upgrades or cancellations department?

Make sure you go through to cancellations depart and say you want your PAC code as other networks have better deals, and then they will offer you a better deal.

You should then be offered the standard deal that a number of people on here have been offered: 600mins 1000sms + unlimited internet for £1.67 per month (with cashback)

    Hi mbailey.

    This was retentions (aka loyalty).

This wasn't thier first offer, but I made it clear I wasn't too keen on cash-back deals. Reading up, this is probably the best non-cashback deal I've seen anyone mention lately.
However, you guys appear to be quite moist for the cashback :D , so I'll reconsider.....

In fact, I emailed them again to cancel my 400min/500text deal. When I got a call back, I tried to squeeze a free phone out of them but they couldn't do it.

I asked for 600mins and 500 texts instead and he upgraded (£40 per month, £480 cash back deal, 12 months).

Call them back, they'll re-instate the offer, maybe even give you a better one!

I asked for a confirmation email as has been suggested on this thread numerous times, however, the operator told me that CPW have a new policy that they do not email the details out as this service was often violated. Not sure how, but that's what he told me. Have to wait for a welcome pack to arrive in the post.

Then you should be suspicious as this is what they told me. However, they did send an email, but still it was not satisfactory enough as it was ambiguous and did not refer to all of the point I needed referring to.

No welcome pack ever arrived, and I doubt that it would have. I cancelled during the cooling off period anyway as I just didn't trust it.

In defence of CPW, this is the same way I have dealt with all the phone networks in the 10 years that I've owned contract phones. Whenever I have stayed on with a network and renewed a contract, with Orange and 3 previously, I've always worked in this way by verbally agreeing new deals.

The only reason I have to doubt CPW's word is because of what smoe people say on here, but I'm quite confident that they will keep to their word.

Yes, you may well be right and it might all be ok. But it's just too woolly for my liking and if it does turn awkward the lack of proof of what was said is worrying.
