Changing tariff with EDF

On the comparison sites i looked at, both gave a yearly amount of £1028 (based on the kwh use i'd detailed) for this tariff. what am i missing??
Try again double checking everything you input. (I hope you are using annual kWhrs not monthly payment). When I did the online quote it was exactly right for the annual kWhrs entered.
I think you have entered, or the webform solicited, double monthly payments.0 -

entered all in KWH & checked back from a years worth of bills with EDF.
gas 12,194 kwh & elec 4582 kwh, currently paying £82 per month to EDF (think we're about £175 in credit at the moment).
based on this, the estimates of £1,028 per year seemed about right.0 -
As jalexa says, check your figures.
You can also look at the EDF "midata" information. For me, and others it would seem, it gave accurate annual figures in kWh based on the meter readings they had had from me. Pricing wasn't exact, but is pretty meaningless as you're loking at new tariffs anyway.
I always have to search around to find the midata info, but it is there under your account, MyAccount - Account details, as a download.
Edit:
Just seen your post above, and those figures look good, with the cost agreeing with the Blue +Price rates.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. thanks
downloaded it but unfortunately the 'energy use' column just states 'N/A', but the 'forecasted' charges column does state £517.54 elec & £492.55 gas = £1010.09 (this would be on the FixedSaverV2 tariff i'm guessing?)
think i'll perhaps give EDF a call & see why the forecasted info on my account for Blue2014 is so different, it could be an interesting call!0 -
ok, well that really hasn't given me any confidence in EDF at all - took 15 mins of queue time to be answered, then 15 mins of phone call & i'm non the wiser!
the readings/usage i've used is from my bills July 2011 to July 2012, there system gives them no immediate way of checking the figures i'd got, he'd have to open up each individual bill to check & he seemed pretty reluctant to do this.
all he could give me was 'periodic consumption' figures of 4716 for elec & 18080 for gas. not too far out on elec, mine 4582, but gas very different, mine 12194. he said the periodic figures were averages over lots of years & previous occupiers? (we've only been with EDF since last July & we've been in this house for 14 years with pretty similar use each year).
based on his figures, Blue2014 would be £1243.34 yearly. he then went off on a complete tangent & started telling me about a cheaper tariff with some company called Tenant Direct that would be £60.52 less, compared to FixedSaverV2. erm, shouldn't that be compared to Blue2014 as fixed saver is ending?? I gave up on that & quickly changed the subject back to my account...
he couldn't tell me why the Blue2014 tariff was showing as £2004 per annum when using the 'change tariff' option on my account.
i've ended up asking him to check our consumption & why his figures are different to the billed amounts for the last year, he agreed to this & will call back later, but i could almost sense him rolling his eyes & resisting the urge to mutter "well, if i really HAVE to".
Scottish Power are looking more attractive by the minute!0 -
With EDF you really have to track your own usage, calculate your own monthly DD amount and then make sure that's what you're paying if you want to spread your annual cost evenly over the months.
How EDF arrive at any of their cost estimates is a mystery to most of us, but they do seem to be able to calculate bills correctly!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. EDF callback received, so credit due as i thought i might not hear back from him as he sounded so reluctant!
kwh consumption figures for July 2011 to July 2012 are the figures i was working from (as shown on the bills), not the figures he quoted to me. no real info on why the discrepancy, just the EDF way i guess.
in the meantime, i've looked at the Scottish Power deal again & there's also £55 cashback on quidco at the moment.
i know it can take about a month for a transfer of supplier to be completed so i asked if i wanted to change now, would i get charged the termination fee by EDF? reply "if new supplier contract comes into effect before 30.09.12, yes the fee will be charged". I asked to him to double check this as i was sure if was only if i transferred away before 30.06.12 - he checked, still said yes.
now i've just seen this from earlier in the thread:I've just phoned EDF and they have confirmed that there will be no early exit fee if I leave the S@ver2 scheme now to go with another supplier. The terms say that an early termination charge will be applied to your electricity account should you change your tariff before 30th June 2012.
It looks like I'll be going with Scotish Power now as they are £75 a year cheaper than EDFs Blue+.
Now all I have to do is work out how to do it and get a cash back as well.
if i have to wait until closer to 30.09.12, i'm sure this Scottish Power deal will have disappeared by then, so who's right?! (so wished I'd saved a copy of the t&c's for FixedSaverV2, i thought i had but i can't find it *sigh*).0 -

Can't remember whether I have given you advice on this thread (it has gone on for so long:(), but the Edf Blue +Price Promise April 2014 is far superior to the Scottish Power tariff you are considering. Specifically it fixes over a further winter season and (if you register via the link) it "promises" a seamless tariff transfer at maturity.
Your past annual consumption is a matter of fact which Edf may get wrong but cannot change. As you have been advised work out for yourself your correct monthly payment. Within reason the Edf advisers helpfully restore rogue calculations without protest.
Did you eliminate my suggestion that you had inadvertently double entered data into the Edf online checker?0 -
I don't it was ever proven in T&Cs. From the copy I have for Fixed S@ver V2 back in April 2011 (and section 6 from the above link):You agree to remain on the Fixed S@ver Version 2 tariff for each account until 30 September 2012. If You change supplier or switch to an alternative EDF Energy tariff at any time before this date, You acknowledge and agree that We may apply an Early Termination Fee to Your energy account(s). This fee will be £25 for electricity accounts and £25 for gas accounts (a total of £50 for customers with both gas and electricity accounts).

thanks. i found the same as Jalexa online, but i think mine would have been an earlier version as i went on to this tariff June 2011. but if the April 2011 version states the same, i can only assume T&C's from when we took it out were the same as then.
i don't know why i've got 30 June as the date though, perhaps i'm thinking of another deal i was looking at back then? it was ages ago & i have no idea now! (but i'm not the only one as per DaveLees info?).
oh well, will just have to go with what EDF are telling me so i guess a transfer away is out of the question at the minute...0
