Changing tariff with EDF

It's still not clear (at least not to me) if existing EDF customers on Fixed Saver V2 who sign up via this link are actually guaranteed access to Blue+ Price Promise 2014 from 1/10, even if EDF should pull it from sale before 1/10, as now seems more likely given the SSE announcement?
I had the following email confirmation when I signed up by the link:
You've recently signed up to Blue +Price Promise April 2014. You've made a great choice. Your current tariff ends on 30 September 2012 and you'll move to your new tariff seamlessly on 1 October 2012 – there won't be any interruption to your supply.
As soon as you're up and running, you will receive further details on Blue +Price Promise April 2014 so you have all the information you need to make the most of your new tariff.
If you pay by monthly Direct Debit we'll also write to you around 1 October with details of your new monthly Direct Debit payments. These may change to reflect the price of your new tariff.
Thanks for continuing to be an EDF Energy customer. We know you have a choice of supplier and we value your loyalty.
Yours sincerely

Yes, I had the same reply, but none of that states whether they guarantee that the tariff will still be available come 1/10, if you aren't already on it.
Which is why we need an EDF Company Rep on here...No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

You'd better phone EDF then, its seems quite clear to me. They may not use the word guarantee but it states that I will be moving to Blue Price Promise + at the end of my V2 term,0 -
Maybe we are just being paranoid because of our experiences with EDF, but I got the letter saying my Fixed S@ver Version 2 is ending on 30 September and you can switch to Blue +Price Promise April 2014 etc....
Included was a booklet with the rates as shown on their website today, so you'd have to believe they are the rates you'll pay.
I figured I can put up with EDF's weird and wonderful DD recalculations now I know how to avoid most of them, calculate my usage cost myself and have had no trouble beyond a freephone call to get the DD back where it should be once they screw it up. Better the devil you know, especially at those prices....I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. I've just phoned EDF and they have confirmed that there will be no early exit fee if I leave the S@ver2 scheme now to go with another supplier. The terms say that an early termination charge will be applied to your electricity account should you change your tariff before 30th June 2012.
It looks like I'll be going with Scotish Power now as they are £75 a year cheaper than EDFs Blue+.
Now all I have to do is work out how to do it and get a cash back as well.
Same for me, Scot Power Online Fixed Price Energy Nov 2013 is £70 cheaper than EDF Blue +Price Promise April 2014.
Factor in £30 cashback as well, that will be £100 better off moving away from EDF.
The question is timing though and when I can apply to Scottish Power...0 -
But the big advantage of EDF Blue+Price Promise 2014 is that it's fixed until April 2014 (unlike SP), and there are no exit fees.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Valid points. So with EDF you are getting fixed prices for 2 winters as opposed to 1 winter with SP.
I have done some quick sums and the prices have to rise by about 10% in Nov 2013 for it to be more beneficial to fix with EDF until April 2014.
You also need to factor in the way the tariff's are setup as the SP has no standing charge, but a higher price for the initial number of units. The EDF prices have a fixed prices for all units and a daily standing charge.
The result of this is that when you look at additional energy usage which could be applicable if we have a bad winter for example the cost with EDF is alot more than with SP.
My other concern is that I have so much grief from EDF over the year with constant changes to my Direct Debit and many discussions with them to put it correct each time they muck it up, I am frankly fed up with EDF.
I hate this constant battle and gamble with utility prices, why can't the providers just have 1 tariff each at the lowest rate and then cut out all this rubbish.0 -
This is totally untrue in my area,Blue 2014 is the cheapest and i am so glad i fixed at these prices .I would recommend anybody worried about price increases to fix, complete no-brainer.0

It's always a gamble going with fixed prices. You pay a bit more at first, but are usually ahead of the game in the long run. Certainly it's worked for me over the past 5 or 6 years.
Currently I'm on EDF's Fixed S@ver 2 and having signed up for it in May 2011, am now paying less than any tariffs currently available. The comparison sites all show an increase is inevitable - I'd be disappointed if they didn't!
I too have had nothing but problems with EDF and my DD amounts, and have been looking foward to leaving them. But I have signed up for the Blue +Price deal when the current tariff ends. It looks like an attractive deal for my circumstances.
Now I have a system for avoiding most of EDF's crazy DD adjustments, I figure I can live with that for the deal they are offering - or bail out at no cost!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. i'm in the same boat as a few have already mentioned. EDF fixed saver V2 ending 30.9.12, using the standard EDF tariff on a few of the comparison sites brings up Scottish Power fixed until Nov 2013 as being cheapest (£96 less per year) or EDF Blue fixed until April 2014 (£82 cheaper).
I'm not keen on EDF billing methods, but as already mentioned, when they do fudge your DD, it's been easy enough to fix with a phone call (perhaps 2 or 3 calls if you're unlucky!).
I think for the extra peace of mind until April 2014, I might just go Blue...
edit: ok, this has confused me! i've just logged into my EDF account & looked at the change tariff options. Blue fixed until April 2014 shows as £2004 per year/£167 per month. On the comparison sites i looked at, both gave a yearly amount of £1028 (based on the kwh use i'd detailed) for this tariff. what am i missing??
p.s. have now done the quote for blue 2014 via the edf website, £1029 per year. do i assume the estimated figures that are actually coming through on my account are just way off (like their DD re-calculations?).0
