Changing tariff with EDF

Hi
I am currently on EDFs fixed s@ver V2 tariff which comes to an end on september 30th. I have had a letter from them reminding me of this and that if I do nothing I will move onto the standard variable tariff on october 1st.
I plan to switch to the EDF blue price promise tariff.
My current tariff has an early termination penalty of £50, therefore can I switch tariff now or do I literally have to wait until October 1st? (if so why send me the letter?). I tried ringing them but couldn't get through and just wanted to do the switch online.
Thanks

No, you need to wait until 30/9-a switch of tariff on the same supplier should be almost instantaneous, so you would incur an ETC if you switch now.
All customers on this tariff have had the same letter this week.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
The guy above is wrong, you won't be charged if you move now.0

i am in the same boat as you teepee,
i do know that if you switch to a different tariff with the same provider it is instant !!! i am not sure about a penalty if you do this before 30-9
Moving ot another provider however can take weeks if not months , that was my experience moving to EDF amyway !!!0 -
The guy above is wrong, you won't be charged if you move now.
The guy above is not wrong, The Fixed Saver v2 T&C's clearly state that the OP will be charged £25 ETC per fuel if they move to another tariff before 30/9. Not just if they move to another supplier.
Just log in and switch to your preferred tariff on 1/10.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I have just spoken to edf, they wont charge to change tarrif however blue is more expensive than v2 so not beneficial to swap before october.Pawpurrs x0

we have a few issues going on at home right so ive done it today.
theres no charges at all other than we are paying extra for 2 months which isnt ideal but the offer could be removed and as said we have a few things going on so it might not get dealt with come oct 1st.
should be the cheapest time of year to lose out so i thought not worth risking losing out altogether.
also if something better comes along in the next 2 months i can leave without penalty, whereas if i waited and wanted to jump too ie SP next month i couldnt without penalty.

That is up to you but there is no guarantee the tariff will still be available in October.
Regarding the ETC being waived for an immediate transfer, that would not be unreasonable of Edf as it is in Edf's interest to retain your custom, however macman is right that the ETC :Dcan/may/might/will:D be levied on an tariff switch. Ensure you are satisfied that you can prove what you were told. I suggest asking an "open question" by email.0 -

The wording of the T&C's is 'will', not 'may'.
Obviously they can still waive this at their discretion. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Not a p*ssing contest but the full tariff rules state:6. You agree to remain on the FSv2 tariff for each account until 30 September 2012. If You change supplier or switch to an
alternative EDF Energy tariff at any time before this date, You
acknowledge and agree that We may apply an Early Termination
Fee to Your energy account(s).
and the important information states:• If you decide to change tariff or supplier before 30 September 2012, you may be charged an Early Termination Fee of £25
for gas and £25 for electricity (a total of £50 for Dual Fuel customers)
although elsewhere it states:A. A £25.00 Early Termination Fee will be applied to your electricity account should you change your electricity tariff before
30 September 2012 as defined in the Fixed S@ver Version 2 Full Tariff Rules.
B. A £25.00 Early Termination Fee will be applied to your gas account should you change your gas tariff before 30 September 2012
as defined in the Fixed S@ver Version 2 Full Tariff Rules.
Confusing, eh?
Although reports on here of customers changing tariff within EDF not being charged suggests they are applying the 'may' rather than the 'will.'604!0
