No, it's not right. You are still in contract until you go on supply with the new supplier, not when you apply to switch..

Hmm. I received the following response from them.....

"Thank you for your recent e-mail

Due to the terms and conditions of the Fixed S@ver V2 you would incur the termination fee if you cancelled your tariff and moved to Blue Price Promise 2014 tariff before 30th September 2012."

Whilst I know they are completely in their rights to say this as it is in the T&Cs of my current product, they should be taking a consistent approach to this and not offering to waive the fees for one customer and not another.

My reply to them will be simple

    1. that several other customers have been waived the charge, so why not in my case?
    2. that if they do not waive the charge and on september 30th EDF are no longer cheapest I will simply move to another supplier.

Considering the Blue price promise is MORE expensive than my current tariff I cant see why they would not want me to switch.
    We shall see........

Right after a slightly annoyed email from myself, they have now replied with:

"When the Blue Plus Price Promise was introduced, it was decided that any existing customer on a fixed tariff could transfer without incurring any termination fees so you can transfer onto the Blue Plus Price Promise April 2014 without incurring a termination fee.

However, from comparing the unit rates from the Fixed Saver v2 to the Blue Plus Price Promise April 2014, I can see that the Fixed Saver is in fact cheaper so more beneficial for you to stay on to this tariff until it expires.

Your tariff will not automatically change to Blue Plus Price Promise April 2014 as we have to go through the terms and conditions and the legal script with you before signing you up.

However, for peace of mind, you can contact us by telephone and we can change your tariff over to start from the 01 October so that it will be switched as soon as your existing tariff ends.

If you wish to change your tariff now rather than from the 01 October then you can do this online"

Looks like everyone at EDF has a different script!

I have had a email confirming that I will not incurr charges if I change over now! I used a comparison site and it made out that edf blue was cheaper than the fixed saver version 2 that we are on?! So I've changed over now can't risk waiting as the way this is being marketed I don't think it will last till 30th! Also kept a print out of the email which I will keep safe incase of problems with charges!

Reading thru' this thread just confirms what so many of us have already found in our dealings with EDF................not only does the left hand not know what the right hand is doing..........but also the "Customer Services" department should be renamed "Headless Chickens":rotfl:

And the management "cockroaches when the lights go on"...;):D

I just rang EDF to clarify a few things as I was thinking about swapping to Scottish Power's fixed Price Plan. I said that I was going to leave it for a couple of weeks so that the swap occurred in the first week of October, but he told me that if EDF were informed that I was going to leave before the 30th (not actually leaving before 30/9, but just telling them that I was going to leave in October) I would be liable to the termination fees. Surely that can't be right can it?

No its incorrect since the notification includes your later switching date.

You are in contract until the actual date of transfer and if they try it on, complain all the way.

Unfortunately the Blue tariff is not cheaper than the fixed saver 2 tariff. I initially fell into the same trap on the comparison website as because we are near the end of the current tariff, they do the calculation based on what tariff you will be be on in a couple of months if you do nothing (i.e. standard variable). You can opt out of this when you do the search, but I did miss this myself first time.

However there's not a lot in it. For me it was only about £50/year dearer. so if you factor in that its summertime and not using as much energy, there's probably only a fiver in it for a couple of months.

Scottishpower is going to be the cheapest for me.

Looks like I will need to wait until 30th September to signup to it though :(

phoned edf today about end of V2 next month and going onto blue+, VERY helpfull ,checked my a/c for useage and worked out for me that new rate would cost approx. £66 per year more than what paid now, so for peace of mind and loss of a fiver asked to change over , no penalty and peace of mind untill 2014, also if a really good bargain comes along NO penalty to change.
