What has happened to trying to speak to someone at EDF...I am fed up with trying to speak to someone, just keep getting told that they are experiencing high call volumes. Its the same no matter what time of day you call.It never us to be like this.I use to call the switchboard and was put straight through to speak to someone..

Ah. Back to the "good old days". I definitely won't give them a reading for September 1, as I know they will inexplicably increase my DD amount and I won't be able to get through to get it back where it should be.

(1) Thousands of people desperately trying to switch?

(2) A few people trying to get their previous direct debit payments restored:D?

(1) Victims of their own success. Quite a common business syndrome.

(2) Self inflicted by their own systems. A very common business syndrome.

So a double whammy.
• Well yesterday I was going to do the switch online until I saw my DD was going to increase.I didn't want that to happen as I am well in credit so thats why I thought I would phone them.(or try to)
As I am disabled and very hard of hearing I phoned their 'customers with special needs' number and managed to get to actually speak to someone, who I might add was very helpful.
She said the wait time to get through to c/s was about 20 minutes and they are setting extra staff on to cope with this.
Its funny it seemed fine before they started with all this automated rubbish.

I am currently an EDF customer who they moved onto the standard variable rate a couple of months ago. I got a quote for the 'blue' 2014 deal and they quoted me a lower monthly payment than what i am on now, not by much but it all helps. Then it said as I am currently a customer to change through my account on the edf website. The monthly payment was now £12 month more expensive than what I pay at the moment. Nice way to keep customers happy, I have now changed supplier!

Your monthly DD payment is nothing to do with the price of the tariff, people really need to understand this. The Blue 2014 tariff rate would have been much cheaper in the long run than their standard variable rate, and yes whilst your initial monthly payment had increased it would no doubt have put you in credit and at which point it would have been reduced again.

Never rely on monthly payment "quotes", they mean nothing. Look at the tariff rate and along with your current usage calculate what you'll actually be charged over the period.

Completely agree. What the energy companies don't make clear is that you are fixing the price for the units and standing charge. The monthly DD will of course depend on your own personal consumption which depending on usage/weather etc and will always vary.

Also then factor in EDF's crazy system for calculating DD amounts, which you can not trust, then anything could happen.

The only way to really compare is to keep a spreadsheet with your meter reads and then monitor your consumption and actual charges over the year and compare that to previous years. Yes I know it shouldn't be that complicated, but that is the system we have today.
• Apparently there has been thousands trying to switch to the Blue+ 2014 plan,so that might explain why their switchboards have been jammed and people unable to get through to speak to c/s advisor's.

According to stories going round they are going to/have pulled this plan off the market,is that true.?

No different to last year then, when customer's in their droves were signing up on the Fixed S@ver V2 deal. And yes, it is true that the tariff is being pulled so get in quick before it disappears completely from the EDF site.
