Changing tariff with EDF

  • Also on Fixed S@ver V2, I just phoned them to ask what they could offer when it ends. They offered to put me on the Blue tariff starting 1 October, which means I won't pay any penalty as I won't be ending the current tariff early.

A no-brainer for me since the Blue tariff has no early termination charges but might be pulled before 30/9. This way I keep my options open and will check for better options (including cashback offers) closer to the time.

I asked the same question by email and received the following answer by email "I can confirm that in changing to the Blue+ Price Promise April 2014 you will not incur any termination fees".

Anyway even by your numbers the worst case would be a first year saving of £50 and a second year saving of £100 plus or minus price movement.

I would say get cracking before the tariff is pulled. If you are registered on MyAccount you can use the 'change tariff' function and it will all be done automatically. Seamless (so far) with my change. Note the advice of others to submit readings on or around the change date.

    They told me

"I can confirm for you that if you were to switch from Price Protection 2013 to another tariff before your tariff has ended there would be a £25 per fuel before 31 March 2013 termination fee. "

It is slightly different because I am talking about the PP2013 tariff, whereas most people seem to be talking about the fixed saver tariff which is ending soon.

I noticed the change tariff section online and might just go for it, with everybody switching now, it will no doubt be pulled very soon.

**Just gone for it and switched, according to the figures I should be better off even if I do get charged. It appears to have switched instantly and there is no change to my balance yet, so I will wait and see what happens with my next bill.

This is just speculation but I wonder if the use if the word "switch" instead of "tariff change" resulted in an incorrect answer.

Nothing to lose by trying it out! Hopefully no fee will be charged but the saving seems to justify it either way.

I’m in the same position of being on the Fixed Saver V2, which ends on 30 September. I think that I’m going to switch to EDF blue via the www.edfenergy.com/feelbetter link now, so that I guarantee that I am on a good tariff until April 2014.

However, I will look at the comparison sites/cashback offers again in mid September and if there is a better tariff and cashback with another provider (like the Scottish Power November 2013 fix if its still around) I will switch to that one then, so will hopefully save £50/100 per year over the EDF blue tariff, partly because there is no cashback earned by staying with the same provider.

I am aware that one risk of this is that I won’t have the benefit of the current EDF fixed tariff for winter 2013/2014, but I can live with that and, if necessary, make a little mistake with my meter readings next autumn. ;)

I did the online switch yesterday with EDF and even remembered to give them meter readings.

The savings column does say that it includes any charges for switching - I was on the 2013 tariff.

I had a look at the pricing and the gas price was the same, the electric was 1p dearer but saving for me is the drop in the standing charge.

My DD has went down by £19 and I'm happy to know my costs are fixed until 2014. My only problem is my confirmation email says the DD will be taken on 1st October, no mention of my September payment due in a few days - I don't want to start off underpaying and get re-adjusted to a stupid amount.

Will wait till next week and see if they take anything.

I had the same with EDF a couple of months ago. At the end of the June they told me my next DD would be August, so when I asked what happened about July they said yes that would also happen, but for some reason the computer showed the next payment as August. I think it depends how close it is to the next DD payment.

Just to be clear the rates for electricity and gas are fixed, but the usage will vary so the direct debit is not actually fixed until 2014.

As many on here have experienced EDF have a bad habit of changing DD when they feel like, usually when they are out of pocket or think they might become out of pocket. Funny that when your account is in credit they never seem to decrease the DD then!

Good plan - I've just done the same! Seems to cover all options.

As I pointed out a few days ago, there is no indication of whether those currently on Fixed Saver v2 who 'reserve' the Blue tariff by means of signing up via the link given above, will still be moved to it should EDF pull that tariff before 1/10. I would think there is a high probability that Blue will go within the next 30 days.

You could always make an extra payment.
