My local Tesco now charges 20p for an itemised receipt. If you take a non-itemised one it is free, but for the full receipt it is 20p.

Been in two Tesco stores today, Tesco and Tesco Extra and was given itemised receipts in both, no extra charge.

Got to be paper saving, the till could have an option for "does the customer want a receipt" and you press a button depending on the answer.

Recently when I have made purchases at my local Co-op I am asked if I want my receipt. I always say yes.
This morning after the usual question I asked why they ask the customer rather than just hand over the receipt. Told it was company policy but assistant didn't know reasoning behind it.
    I do find this irritating.

Must be a store policy not a company policy as my local Co-op always give receipts and never ask if you want one. Ask to see the manager and query this.
Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.

    BINGO!

That is exactly what the till does :) I work in a co-op part time. The whole ethos of the co-op is to try and be kind to the environment, even their electricity is green sourced. That is why the till only prints a receipt automatically if there is a discount item, a card payment or a higher than average spend. You can of course ASK for one and we will give you one. Indeed if after we give you your change you realise you need a receipt we can still easily print it.

Personally I think it is fab that they save thousands of unwanted receipts a day that would otherwise be put on the floor, the bin or just chucked into our bag or pockets on the way out.

    Thanks

Its a good idea as most receipts aren't needed by the customer eg a customer buying a paper or some cigs, a lighter and rizlas.

Agreed, there was a lack of evidence in that thread as well.
