Receipts at the Co-op

Options
Recently when I have made purchases at my local Co-op I am asked if I want my receipt. I always say yes.

This morning after the usual question I asked why they ask the customer rather than just hand over the receipt. Told it was company policy but assistant didn't know reasoning behind it.

I do find this irritating.

    Ask Co-op head office?

If it's not printed, I suppose it could be a paper saving.

If it's printed and not required, I suppose that they could ensure it's recycled.

I will send them an email. However, I do prefer to get receipts to (a) check I have been charged correctly and (b) for my own budgeting system.

The staff ask that at my local Sainsburys as well.

Many people just throw their receipts on the floor and so it may well be to stop that.

The sainsburys local ones dont print out an itemised receipt on its own without the cashier making it do so, its to stop the receipts getting dropped on the floor as most people dont really want one when they are just buying lunch or some chewing gum.

A lot of folk don't take one. I don't if I have less than 5 things and have added up as I go along. If there is an offer I ask the person if it has come off ok. Works fine. If I am doing a big shop I always ask for one. If you buy anything reduced it comes out automatically, and you will always get a card receipt if you pay that way.

How hard is it to just carry on saying 'yes' then?
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

My local Tesco now charges 20p for an itemised receipt. If you take a non-itemised one it is free, but for the full receipt it is 20p.
Sounds strange to me, certainly doesn't happen in my local branch.

At this point the checkout assistant will be politely told to put it all back on the shelf

I have been in Tesco, Tesco Extra and Tesco Metro in the last month and got itemised receipts every time without being charged anything for the receipt. What Tesco do you use?
