Have you ever read a book and the resulting film's actor is wrong?

Going slightly off the topic of poor casting but I HATE when films change the plot of the book. I do expect some inconsistencies as it can't always be the way I imagined but My Sister's Keeper was AWFUL. I cannot believe how they butchered the ending!0

That's the main reason I very rarely see a film when I've already read the book. It's not just the casting, it's the bits of the story they change/miss out, the whole mental imagery. Likely to get you thrown out of the piccy's, shouting at the screen when they've got it wrong.
(And Peter Dinklage, the dwarf in Game of Thrones is soooo not Tyrion. I rest my case.)
Physically I agree with Peter Dinklage, he's not ugly enough, but he's got the character perfect, I think he's the most true to book character in it. I'm surprised how well Jerome Flynn does Bronn, if I'd known that beforehand I'd have been shocked at the casting, but it was a few episodes before I even recognised him.All of the Discword adaptions have been wrong for me including the cartoon versions and the live actors. All wrong. David Jason .......
Completely agree with this, apart from the girl in Going Postal, I thought she was great.
I agree with what others say about Wallander, I always saw him as Ken Stott.
And Jurassic Park - I recently read that and the sequel and was surprised how different all the characters were to the actors and actresses in the film.
I think I might have to give the Jack Reacher books a go sometime. But I promise I wont watch the film!Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
I love Patricia Highsmith's Ripley books, but to cast Gwyneth Paltrow as Marge in 'The Talented Mr Ripley' was so wrong.0

I've thought of another one - I haven't watched it but just from the adverts Dexter looks all wrong.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

I'm a big Lee Child fan, but whilst I agree that Tom Cruise doesn't physically resemble the description of Jack Reacher, I can cope with him playing him. I'm looking forward to the film in fact and will go release week. I like TC as an action film actor, loved the last Mission Impossible and think he can certainly pull off dark, brooding and ruthless. Hell, he made Rock of Ages bearable with his acting, and that's saying something.
I don't need a character in a film to be that true to the book, I just need the film to be good as a standalone. The only time I recall in a book adaptation that they have got the casting spot on is with a few of the Stephen King films, scarily accurate for me.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -

I've recently read at least a dozen 'Jack Reacher' books back to back (main character in books by Lee Child) and I had formed a mental picture of the character.
I'm gutted to discover there is now a 'Jack Reacher' movie and the character is played by.........Tom Cruise.
I've nothing against Tom Cruise and I like him in other films but he's too 'pretty' and just not rough enough and 'square jaw' enough to be the character in this one.
He's also not tall enough. I bet there will be loads of camera shots taken from low down to make him look taller.
Have you ever not been able to fully reconcile an actor with the character they play?
This was my first thought when I saw the thread title. Agree with a post a bit further down that says Sean Bean. Hadn't thought of him myself but he would fit really well. Ever seen a picture of Lee Child? He looks very much like my image of Jack Reacher.
Everything about Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher is wrong IMO.Clean credit file:12 mthsCar loan: FREE! :jTHE PLAN: 1.Pay off debt £8808.42(£3254.45, £1570.32, £2698.33, £0:dance:, £1000, £285.32) 2.Save monthly for Christmas/insurance etc £150 per month 3.Save for emergencies /£1500 4.Save for our B&B £????depends which one takes our fancy0 -
I can't abide Ken Branagh's Wallander."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

Daniel Craig as Mikael Blomkvist in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (Hollywood version obviously) - no no no!0

Nooo.. I really enjoyed those books.. that would ruin a film for me completely.. someone like Jason Statham would be alot more realistic..
Also Swedish Mikael Blomkvist was ALOT better cast than the US one.. not a prettyboy by far, and fitted in with the whole story a lot better.0
