I think David Jason vastly improved the Frost character in the TV series. R. D. Wingfield wasn't happy with his depiction of the character but I tried to read the books and couldn't get into them.

    Me too, Mojisola.

IIRC, Frost in the books wasn't a particularly nice character.

I read one and crossed him off my list.

Shopaholic. Loved the books- eccentric English character. The movie destroyed it- moved it to america and then cast some awful actress who was not even American and just wasn't becky the character. Didnt physically match her but also was so wooden.

Totally agree. I love the Shopaholic books but the film was awful. It also didnt make sense taking it to America because in the 2nd one she moves to the US, so it also ruled out a sequel. (If the first one had been good enough in the first place).

I read an interview with Sophie Kinsella and they asked her how did they feel about the film makers setting the film in the US, and she basically said that you either go along with it, or the film doesnt get made..

Ive never read these Jack Reacher books but one of my friends posted the exact same thing on facebook the other day saying the same thing about how annoyed she was! I cant stand Tom Cruise anyway, such a weirdo!

I had exactly the same reaction.

Wingfield was right - Jason didn't portray his Frost but I don't think the TV series would have been successful if he had.

I stopped reading Stuart MacBrides books after he set his first murder in MY flat, It was such a shock when I started reading it..

I must go back and check that out ;)

I only read his books because they're set locally and it amuses me to know the locations - although he regularly insults my home town the git :D I doubt I'd still be reading them otherwise as I don't think his writing is that good so I'm quite surprised to see him recommended on here.

Oh and back to the OP, I'm another person who hates the idea of TC as Reacher. I will not be watching any of the films as I doubt my blood pressure can take it and I don't want to alarm the neighbours when I inevitably yell at the television

I almost cried when I found out Tom Cruise was going to be Reacher in my head he had always looked like Adam Copeland who most of you will probably never heard of but he was a WWE wrestler better know as Edge got the height, got the build, hairs a bit long but easily solved! Rather rugged looking has done a little bit of acting, not sure if he could carry a film though, but when I read the books he IS Reacher.

PS I Love You was the worst cast film from a book I had loved (actually the whole film was pants compared to the book) Hilary Swank as Holly was awful, although I thought Gerard Butler was well cast again they moved it all to the US and ripped the heart out of the story.

I am up for some kind of book club thread, I will read anything and am always at a loss as to what to get on my kindle next!!

I don't mind Tom Cruise as an actor, but I thought he was miscast as Lestat in Interview With The Vampire,he was just not how I imagined Lestat to be.

David Suchet was perfect as Poirot and my ideal Miss Marple will always be Joan Hickson.

Going back a few years,I read The Thorn Birds and loved it and I was so excited when I heard there was going to be a TV adaptation of it.While I was happy with Richard Chamberlain as Father Ralph,Rachel Ward as Meggie irritated me beyond words, she was just wrong and not at all how I thought of Meggie.

The Jack Reacher books sound like my type of thing,I'll give them a go.

Pollycat, I loved "Airframe" too, have you read "Terminal Man"?

I've also just finished "Cell" by Stephen King, which I really enjoyed. I started reading it around 3 years ago then put it in my bedside cabinet and completely forgot about it (tells you all you need to know about my housekeeping skills!)

Anniewoo, I totally agree about Meggie from the "Thorn Birds" tv adaptation, she was supposed to be a redhead! Rachel Ward was terrible in the role, more wooden than Aunt Sally. I didn't like Richard Chamberlain either, although his acting wasn't too bad, he wasn't dark and brooding enough for me. And Justine and Dane were all wrong too. It was on one of the cable channels recently and it's just terrible......I must get a new copy of the book, mine originally came from my school library, over 30 years ago. Have you read "Morgan's Run" by the same author? It's also very good.

Two series that I would love to see are Dana Stabenow's Kate Shugak and Liam Campbell stories. I've no idea who would play the title roles - for Kate it would great if they could cast a previously "unknown" Aleut actress - but Dana Stabenow won't give permission unless the film makers promise to film on location in Alaska so that money gets back to the people. So far everyone says it would be too expensive.

I'm not sure that I have. It's been a while since I read most of his books but I've just picked up a copy of 'Airframe' in a charity shop so I'm going to reread it. i'll look out for the Terminal Man.

    I like Stephen King too.
Christine is one of my favourites.
The guy who played Arnie Cunningham in the film (Keith Gordon) was perfectly cast.

The Shining and Salem's Lot gave me nightmares.

The Stand was (I thought) very well written with small chapters about different characters in the beginning with them all coming together gradually.

And I loved The Dead Zone.
