Have you ever read a book and the resulting film's actor is wrong?

I've recently read at least a dozen 'Jack Reacher' books back to back (main character in books by Lee Child) and I had formed a mental picture of the character.

I'm gutted to discover there is now a 'Jack Reacher' movie and the character is played by.........Tom Cruise.

I've nothing against Tom Cruise and I like him in other films but he's too 'pretty' and just not rough enough and 'square jaw' enough to be the character in this one.

He's also not tall enough. I bet there will be loads of camera shots taken from low down to make him look taller.

Have you ever not been able to fully reconcile an actor with the character they play?

I shouted 'NO' out loud when I read about TC playing Reacher last year, I quite like TC, but as Reacher?? uh-uh doesn't work for me, Reacher is a huge bear of a man, with the most rose tinted specs in the world TC does not match up

I thought he was an odd choice for Rock of Ages as well.

For me Reacher was Viggo Mortenson.....Tom Cruise is the polar opposite of Reacher:eek:

He's dark haired for me but I could work with Sean Bean. :rotfl:

I always pictured him in my mind to be like Michael Madsen, definitely not Tom Cruise.

That's the main reason I very rarely see a film when I've already read the book. It's not just the casting, it's the bits of the story they change/miss out, the whole mental imagery. Likely to get you thrown out of the piccy's, shouting at the screen when they've got it wrong.

(And Peter Dinklage, the dwarf in Game of Thrones is soooo not Tyrion. I rest my case.)

Hundred percent agree with you in regards to the casting of Tom Cruise. I can't see him as Jack Reacher at all

I generally HATE a lot of film adaptions as the casting rarely fits in with the mental image i have built in my head

This reminds me of my daughter who maintains that the Harry Potter books are "all wrong!" because she saw the films first!
