Have you ever read a book and the resulting film's actor is wrong?

Obviously everyone has a different idea as to who should play a character - there's been at least four suggested here. I haven't read the books so can't judge but i don't like Cruise anyway. On the subject of a different book, i always thought Tom Hanks was wrong for professor Langdon in the Da Vinci code. There are very few book to film adaptations that cast who i think should be in the role - LOTR is the only one i can think of.0

In actuality, there are few actors at the moment who would be LESS like Reacher than TC! Apart from perhaps Warwick Davis?
You're not suggesting Cruise is on the small side are you?;)0 -
the heartbeat books described greengrass as a small wirey man
not the huge hulking form of bill maynard0 -
Well it's a while since I looked and it's up to page 174 now:rotfl:0

I felt like that with the twilight books. Edward was all wrong for me as in my mind he looked like Edward scissor hands but without the scars, dark hair and really really pale skin.0

Hi, thanks for this thread, I'm always looking for good books to read on the train, reckon I'll try out Jack Reacher.
To answer your original question OP, yes! 'About a Boy' by Nick Hornby, no way is Hugh Grant 'cool' enough to play that part! Similar to yourself, nothing against Hugh Grant, do like him, but not as Will! Are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation? :cool:0 -

But as i explained, it isn't a simple case of us readers thinking that an actor doesn't "suit" the part. The whole POINT of Reacher's character and therefore the storylines is that his presence (and in a large part his physique) is huge! The books constantly make reference to his body and overall size - how he makes most men who are in his presence seem like dwarfs! TC is 5ft 7". He is literally one of the smallest actors in Hollywood!!Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?0
