  • I have books 4 flights to Spain and tried to get refund but the refund form has a drop down for reasons that do not include decining to pay the airport tax and you cant send the form otherwise. I have sent it anyway and e mailed costomer services but am starting to feel extremely nervous.

Think the Ryanair website has been updated. Says cards will be debited with additional charge for all flights departing on or after 1st July even if booked before that date. Also includes details of how to cancel and list of charges.
that is true but the form cannot be sent unless tick the reasons for cancelling which dont include the airport tax issue

No, you wouldn't call it expensive, and neither would I. But as you say, that way way back when MC was free to use, before they introduced the extremely complex and off-putting Ryanair card.

Only the last flight. The other ones were booked after they introduced the Ryanair card which I haven't bothered to get so the first four flights on the list includes the admin charge.

Personally I wish all airlines were as vigilant as Ryanair about enforcing their carry-on rules. Lack of overhead locker space is a frequent issue these days, partly because people take on board too much.

To each his own of course (and I honestly couldn't care less which airlines people decide to use) but I've flown Ryanair regularly for more than a decade now and I never felt it was something I had to endure, at least not more than economy flying in general. Never had a problem with them aside from a delay or two. But then I actually take the time to study the rules that apply to the airline I use and make sure I follow them. Looks to me like a lot of the issues people have with Ryanair could have been avoided if they had done the same.

Why are you cancelling out of interest?
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

In my experience, this is only a problem on Ryanair because passengers are discouraged (through high prices) from checking baggage into the hold and because of the short seat pitch, meaning there are more seats per overhead locker.

Well, all I can say is that's not my experience at all. I mostly fly with non-Ryanair airlines and the lack of overhead space is a problem I see again and again. In fact I'd say the problem is more frequent on legacy carriers since they usually allow an extra piece of hand luggage. You'd think you'd see more carry-on luggage with LCC but I don't really think it's the case. I know from myself that if it's at all possible I fly with carry-on only to avoid the hassle of waiting for luggage at my destination and the risk of the luggage being lost/delayed.

Judging by your posts in here I'm surprised to find out you even fly Ryanair :)

That is a justified comment! However, I had the misfortune of flying with them recently when they were the only airline flying the route I needed. I would have happily paid double to fly on British Airways. Ryanair was as bad as I expected and worse in some respects; they even pushed back from the stand before they had found somewhere for me to sit and for my baggage.

    Lot of rubbish

I booked extra legroom seats on Jet2 and overhead space was still a hassle

have you flown LCC on a Maundy Thursday, Friday, Sunday, Bank Holiday Monday or New Year's day?

Understandable. The extra legroom seats are not throughout the whole cabin but maybe one or two rows so the difference would be negligible. However, if you pack 33 rows into a cabin that normally has 20 to 25 rows, then there will be too much baggage for the overhead lockers, regardless of whether one or two of those 33 rows have a slightly bigger seat pitch.
