It's impossible to claim the refund. I followed the link they sent and there is no option specific to this tax.

Can you not simply chose a different reason?

So just over £7 each, with the very greatest respect, whilst we all would wish to save money, sometimes when travelling unexpected costs do come along, just couple of drinks less or whatever and write to the Spanish government if you must but don't let it spoil your holiday.

Just had my email and it's pennies to pay so no issue at all

    Except ..........
Ryanair must have kept all the credit card details in order to automatically charge the increase.

    Is that normal?

I understand it makes life somewhat easier for them in these situations but it seems to be a potential security risk to me.

    the Ryanair website says:
"These monies will be debited automatically from the payment card used at the time of booking."

However, my fairfx card has got zero balance !

That in itself ought not to afford them the right and privilege to help themselves to your bank account.

While I fully agree with Ryanairs right to charge extra (it is in their contract after all - you can't just ignore it, lie to them and say you've read and agree to it and then moan when they enforce it!) - do they actually have the right to just take more from your card without asking? I can't see it mentioned anywhere in their T&Cs (including the one they quote in the explanation).

No, it doesn't at all. A change in taxation may afford them the ability to collect it, but it does not give them automatic access to your bank account.
