Maybe I'm a cynic but I wouldn't expect that at all actually :)
  • Although the increase won't be a huge charge ( I don't think so anyway) I'm aggrieved to being conned out of money by Ryanair!!
My brother (who lives in Spain) has sent me an article on Tumbit - sorry I'm not allowed to post the link, but its on Tumbit dot com and entitled 'AENA apply airport tax increase from Monday 2nd July'
according to this article the charge is only for flights booked from July 2nd, so if your flights already booked then you shouldn't have to pay it!

Can someone please get Martin :money: onto this!

If that's what the article says then it's wrong, unless there's been some sort of last minute change of plans by the Spanish authorities.

Edit: Just found the article and it does say the increase only applies to flights booked after July 2nd. Personally I don't believe this is true as I have seen no other sources to indicate this and it is not how airport taxes are usually charged. You'd think someone else would have reported this in the week since the article was published if it was true. Clearly no airline would get away with charging fictional taxes.

Well, seeing as how the charge is less than €2 in most cases I really don't think he'll get too excited by it and I wouldn't automatically believe anything I read on Tumbit as being true.

What no-one has pointed out is that, as it is so difficult for Ryanair to process debit and credit charge transactions that they need to charge a massive fee, they will no doubt be making a loss on this :rotfl:.

Get some proportionality folks. If you're seriously thinking of boycotting a country/airline because of this you must be operating to a very tight budget. It's less than a cup of coffee and a damn sight less than we pay for the privelege of leaving the UK.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Maybe you should learn how to read a contract instead of blindly agreeing to whatever they say and then moaning about it afterwards?

You are not being 'conned' by Ryanair. The increase is being imposed by AENA (not Ryanair) and Ryanair's T&Cs state that they will pass any such increases on to the customer. Ryanair is offering cancellation and refund if you don't want to pay the increase so where is the 'con'?

By the way, the Tumbit site says "Tickets purchased prior to the approval of these regulations are exempt from these taxes increases". That doesn't mean flights booked before 2nd July, it means flights booked before the (unstated) date that the increase was approved.

No matter what anyone says, Ryanair treat their customers shoddily. I'm surprised anyone still opts to fly with them. I could understand it if they were cheap, but with all of their additional bits and bats, they're not cheap.

In February of this year we were stung with Ryanair at Riga airport. We had to pay 7euros each to go through security because Ryanair had refused to pay the charge. The first thing we knew about it was when we arrived at passport control at Riga airport. At the very least it would have been possible for Ryanair to to let us know via the email address I had used to book with. But they didn't.

I was so annoyed that I decided not to use them again.

Let's see, my last five flights with them cost me £18.99, £40.98 (return flight), £29.80, £34.99, and £18.59 (return flight, paid with Prepaid MC back when that was free). I'd call that pretty cheap. Yeah, if you pay to check in luggage the total price goes up but even adding £15 for each flight (£30 for the returns), I still wouldn't call it expensive.

In fact, it's £35 or £40 each way for a typical 20kg suitcase during high season, so that adds £70 or £80 to a return flight. I'd call that expensive.

No, you wouldn't call it expensive, and neither would I. But as you say, that way way back when MC was free to use, before they introduced the extremely complex and off-putting Ryanair card.

If it's cheap enough, people will put up with fair bit. But everytime I've been on a Ryanair flight there have been angry customers at the gate with the suitcase malarky. The Ryanair staff with their various checks and weighing machines at the gate give the appearance of the SS rather than a welcoming airline. Then once on the plane the scratch card marketing commences. All in all it needs to be cheap if all of this is to be endured. But generally, I no longer think it is cheap.
