I haven't read it, but whats irks me a bit is the amount of people who say it's rubbish and not worth reading. They must've read it themselves to think this, so why say it shouldn't be as popular as it is. They've read it so they're one of the reasons it's so popular. Let the people who want to read it, read it, and they can find out what they think for themselves.

^^Have to agree. Saying the books are rubbish after only reading reviews about them is pointless, it's just allowing someone else to make your opinion for you.

I'm partway through the third book and am pleased to note there is something in the story other than sex/dealing with Mr Grey which makes a nice change. And there are a lot less 'Oh my's :rotfl:

I still can't comprehend why women are so crazy about him though....

Reviews and the phenominal amount of press coveragehas been my information. Has been on womans hour twice now, including yesterday. I often read reviews by reviewers whose taste has proven to be valuable for me.

I often read books that do not appeal if there is something relevent to ....zeitgeist....so i thought maybe this was one, and i think it might me. But reviews suggested that zeitgeist wad not motivation enough.

Yup, the last half of book 3 was actually the bit I "enjoyed" most. Still not the best read but not too far off a cheesy chick lit book. I think they would have been far better books without all the sex scenes but I guess that's the "controversial" bit that probably resulted in its popularity/reputation

Reviews only ar valuable if ypu buold up a picture overtime and use valuable reviews. As two members of my family make most of their living from this i feel fairly well briefed on using reviews in a way that suits me well!

    He's a billionaire, good looking, with a helicopter and a impressive erm, y'know. :p

    You want more? :rotfl:

OK, how about most women have at least had some kind of fantasy about being bossed about and told exactly what to do in sex?
And he's a bit of a bas****, women like that in fantasy men. :D

I've not read the books and don't intend to, although I am an avid reader.

There are some hilarious 1* reviews on Amazon.

Some of the extracts I've read in those reviews have reinforced my decision not to waste my time reading the books.

I like a well-researched, well-written, descriptive novel with believable characters and believable dialogue - it sounds like this book fails on every level.

I've allowed nobody to make up my mind about these books.

Yes, I have read the reviews, but I've also read verbatim extracts (not only from reviews but also in my local book shop) - enough to know that the style of writing, the phrasing and characterisation would not suit me.

OK so the story and the characters are completely unrealistic but who cares! It's the escapism of it all. I've only just started book no2 and I'm once again totally hooked. I love Christian Grey and that's that.

Now more importantly what does everyones Mr Grey look like? :D

Ok I admit it - I still think its total total rubbish but I am strangely addicted - read 300 pages in 2 days.
