Back to Jeffrey Deaver methinks :).

Now, there's an author who knows how to write a story that grips the reader, very clever guy who writes very complex books that I (personally) find impossible to put down.

To start, for clarification, I'm male.
Finished a few weeks ago. Try Olivia Cunning's 'sinners' series. Makes 50 look like a kids book ;)

Thanks for this, Pullip. I'm not a great reader and never have been since leaving Junior School as top reader for the class. I like to absorb every word and not skim so for that reason I find it difficult to really get into a book series.

I have just downloaded the book you mention it and have stuck it on my Android app to read at my leisure. I can tell from the opening paragraph that this one will take me much more time but I will give it a go. Thanks :j
They probably tell him all the time, it's called nagging.

Come on then all those who've had a go at me for trying to explain why all these women like Mr Gray. Maybe you could explain it?

The reasons are for those you've stated. Many women can say differing and nice things about this that and the other but to the majority (notice I say majority please!) a hunky, rich, 6 pack weidling, a bit kinky, needy man is right up their on the list. Add to this the fact he is actually very attentive (come on, how many of us as husbands forget the little niceties that our wives like? I know I did). He won't be everyone's cup of Twinning's English Breakfast tea but he appeals to the masses- hence the trilogy's popularity.
I think there is a degree of snobbishness, as I said waaay back in this thread I read them, I didn't think they were the best written thing in the world but as someone said above its like junk food. If you look through my Kindle you'll find 50 nestled next to Bram Stoker, Tolkien and Plato's Timaeus to name but a few. Sometimes you just want to sit and read something you don't necessarily have to think too deeply about.

Just because I read (and sometimes enjoy) crap books it doesn't mean people can judge me on those books alone.

This +1. I really do think there is a snobbery around this (hence all the chav posts, the mummy !!!!!! etc.) There are far too many sterotypes going around in the reviews of these books for it to be a critical review. Let's all not forget this book is No.1 bestseller. OK it's not for everyone, but it is for a lot of people. What is wrong with a book that people enjoy reading?

Yes I was annoyed after a while with Ana and the 'Oh, My' and the 'inner goddess' as well as the repetitive nature of the story as well as th frustrating time leap at the end of the Triology; but you know, I really enjoyed them. :A:T

I'm already into 'kinkyf8ckery' to a level the wife and I enjoy and the book really didn't open any new avenues for me (bar making me want to have a glass of wine every night!) but what it did do was remind me (and made me cry at some points, I sh it you not) that my wife really is the centre of my Universe and that I should treat her as such.

Our relationship has been ultimately better since we both read all three. Like I said, I'm not talking tying her up blah blah and making her crouch down, but sending little texts, funny e-mails with silly subject lines, a little call to tell her I love her are all making the difference.

To all the Casanunders (sorry, another of my fav authors) out there who do this already, OK , don't read on, you get it made, well played! But I didn't, and for me this is what 50 shades has done for me.

Hell, I'm skint, but boy can I relate to Christian. Read the books, if you like them, good, if not, never mind, move on. We can't all like the same things. ;)

PS - I like reading 'Bear Hunt' and the 'Hungry Caterpillar' to my kids too, but they are hardly literary masterpieces! Everything has its place. :D

PPS - What this is doing for women, i.e. making it OK to talk about erotica on a public forum (MSE and Facebook) is a GOOD thing! Can you imagine a status of "Just watched Edward Penis hands and it was great". The women would be scowled at. Now they are all talking about it and you know, good. It's about time the masses started to indulge in a bit more than missionary and it's about time more men became more attentive to their wives.

    Laters, MSE babies x

Your post made me snigger - love it!

I would love for my boyfriend to read it - he won't because a. I suggested he should and b. even if he did read it he probably wouldn't get it!

These books have nearly made us split up because I want more and he doesn't and this book highlighted that fact.

I normally read nonfiction books as I generally don't get on with novels, however I really enjoyed all three even though they are poorly written! xxx
Life is too short not to love what you do.

I'm glad it made you chukkle :D:D:o

Don't give up on him. I will admit that it takes all sorts, but inside most people there is a little fantasy brewing about wanting a bit more, it just takes confidence to bring it out. You really can only get that by being open, honest and true to him and not being scared of the reaction.

My previous partner and I did nothing "kinky" for 7 years but in the end we started to open up. When I got into a relationship with my now-wife I was clear from the start that I wanted 'more' and we are exploring. How far it goes, only time will tell. I definitely believe in reciprocating though so if you don't want it, don't ask them.

Start of really really small, little messages, the odd drop shoulder and bitten lip (ha!) and he'll 'come' round.

I haven't read FSOG but I don't generally like "women's" erotica. It's always full of carp like..."He gently but firmly tied her wrists with his £300 silk Jermyn Street tie" or "his throbbing manhood caressed her silken thighs" etc etc etc.

What's wrong with a fit mechanic tying you up with a Halfords tow-rope? Or a plumber with a six-pack and a roll of duct tape? ;)

Now you're talking:p:pI've just downloaded them and am having a laugh at the mo.CBA with the constant descriptions of how bloody perfect Mr Grey is tbh.It seems to me like he has the perfect name:rotfl::rotfl:

My wife is currently reading the novel (Shame she hasn't lost a wee bit of weight)

Use it to your advantage, not to the detriment. There are plenty of things to explore with BBW ;)
