I am half way through the first book. The writing is poor, the characters very unlikeable, the situations unrealistic, but it is the Emperor's new clothes as someone else said.
I am glad I am not a man, they hear that this dominance book is all the rage, so they think ok women want to be dominated, so they try it and get, "oy no get on with the dishes!" Talk about mixed messages.
I just hope that there is not someone impressionable women reading it and thinking that everyone has a wooden cross on their wall!
Don't like to comment without finishing them, but I am not sure that I can, but feel aggrieved that people feel they can comment without even opening them.0 -
I think there is a degree of snobbishness, as I said waaay back in this thread I read them, I didn't think they were the best written thing in the world but as someone said above its like junk food. If you look through my Kindle you'll find 50 nestled next to Bram Stoker, Tolkien and Plato's Timaeus to name but a few. Sometimes you just want to sit and read something you don't necessarily have to think too deeply about.
Just because I read (and sometimes enjoy) crap books it doesn't mean people can judge me on those books alone.0 -

I disagree that it's about snobbishness.
I think it's about what you want to spend your leisure time doing - and I don't want to spend it ploughing through a book that I'm not enjoying.
I don't always want to read something challenging and heavy, I do sometimes read chick lit, I think Sophie Kinsella (of the Shopaholic books) is a clever writer but there are other writers of the same genre who I've tried but don't like - for the same reason I'm positive I'd not like 50 shades of Grey.0 -
Sad but true! The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0 -

As long as you remember that women are not all of one mind, but all different, I think we'll be OK.
Some like to be dominated and some would prefer to do the dishesor get their OH to do the dishes :rotfl:

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like them.
Got to chapter 12 in the first book and its boring me senselessFat and proud lol0 -
Read three pages of the sample I requested on my kindle - deleted it - poor writing, predictable and boring. It's been hyped-up beyond its worth ....so no, I'm not reading it0

I'm on book 2 at the moment - its ok for passing time on lunch hour or whatever - but I am starting to find myself skimming over the 'sex' scenes - have read (and had) better!Made it - 15 years married!! Finally!! xx:beer:0

Reading about dominance and enjoying it is very different to actually wanting to be dominated. Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0
