Who's reading Fifty Shades of Grey?

Could be down to the fact that Jilly Cooper/Jackie Collins/Shirley Conran were more mainstream and the fact that many of these books were also made into TV miniseries. That might be why people remember them better. I certainly remember watching the tv miniseries Lace in 1984. I was only 11 at the time and from what ive heard very recently the tv series was nowhere near as explicit as the book.
Shirley Conrans Lace is also being re released in August to mark its 30th birthday.
Incidentally Lotus going by the blogs and posts ive read on the net about Fifty Shades it sounds pretty disturbing to me too.
I remember "riders" as a book and nothing else.
Probably 86 when I got my hands on it.
I wasn't sure about the black lace books, but as I say, I can't remember much about them, so they can't have been that good.
But yes, the 50 shades is very disturbing from what I've read. Rubbish, I would have normally thought...... if so many people weren't reading it.
But now it's rubbish that so many people think is right :undecided
I suppose it could be worse, they could make a film out of it..... oh wait. :rotfl:Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

Escapism and fiction yes, but that's it.
How on earth did this book get so famous?

I wouldn't say the books (50 shades) are a must read by any means but I got curious so read the series anyway, if nothing else it started a conversation between me and hubby about bedroom activities which was long overdue. You know how sometimes neither of you wants to say let's liven things up as you don't want to give the other the impression you're bored?0

Can anyone recommend books where the roles are switched? They seem to be rare as hens teeth.Emergency savings: 4600

I'm tempted to read, but to me it seems like the latest faddy book, rather than a good example of it's genre. Sometimes a book just captures the nation without it being very good.
Personally the most erotic book i've ever read was Tease by Immodesty Blaze, very little overt sex but for some reason I found it really erotic! I think, as it's written by a showgirl/burlesque dancer, she knows how to turn people on via imagination rather than full-blown bonking scenes.
I am in no way a book snob either, I read a huge range of books from Jackie Collins to Hilary Mantel (can't wait for Bring up the Bodies via Library!) and enjoy them all.0 -
