    Debt-free and Proud!
I've read the 3 books over the last 3 days - I enjoyed them but found the sex scenes repetitive and got to the point I was flipping the Kindle pages. I think Damien from Vampire Diaries for the role of Christian (mmmmm )

I've just read a bit of the book I found on the web and I have to say, I'm a bit disturbed. This is not consensual S&M and I'm a bit annoyed this is being portrayed as an s&m relationship by alot of people.

Escapism and fiction yes, but that's it.

How on earth did this book get so famous?

I read that 15 or so years ago and found it a terrible read. I've still got it somewhere, maybe I should dig it out and have another go.
But I doubt it will have improved, probably got worse. Like all books, there were a few good bits, but mostly I remember it as rubbish.

I think if you are into something, you shouldn't read books about it, as either the author won't think the same way you do, or they will paint a picture which isn't real for the non understanding readers, as it's easier for them to realise.

I just couldn't think of the name of that book, so thank you. I read it years ago and accidentally left it in the bedroom drawer of a holiday villa. I often wonder who might have innocently picked it up to read since :D

I read black lace thinking about it, late 80's or something? I can't remember where I got them, I think a jumble sale or boot sale. I don't remember what happened to them, or what the books were like.
But I do remember reading "Riders" aged about 16 and I still remember that book now. :D Good book and to a 16 year old, some decent raunchy bits. Although the lead woman often seemed a bit dull.

Black Lace didnt start until 1993.
Our school library had a copy of Forever by Judy Blume which always fell open at the naughty bit cos someone had bent the spine back so it came apart slightly at that page.
I found out that Black Lace existed when i got a copy of a Black Lace book free with New Woman magazine.

So it did :D Amazing how time plays it's tricks.

So that would mean I didn't pick it up until 94 or 95, amazing I don't remember anything about them, but still remember riders from the late 80's.

They can't have been that good then :)

Could be down to the fact that Jilly Cooper/Jackie Collins/Shirley Conran were more mainstream and the fact that many of these books were also made into TV miniseries. That might be why people remember them better. I certainly remember watching the tv miniseries Lace in 1984. I was only 11 at the time and from what ive heard very recently the tv series was nowhere near as explicit as the book.
Shirley Conrans Lace is also being re released in August to mark its 30th birthday.
Incidentally Lotus going by the blogs and posts ive read on the net about Fifty Shades it sounds pretty disturbing to me too.
