I havent read it. And i dont intend to! I never like to buy into "hype"....didnt watch Titanic until it was shown on the telly LOL
For me, this book series just sounds like the Ann Summers of the literary world. By which i mean it is making a subject become normalised and acceptable which would normally not be.
For example - all of the sad middle aged women i work with are talking non stop about it. Now, not one of them would ever come into the office and say "i bought a erotic book and have really been enjoying it *cackle cackle wink wink*" BUT apparently this is different because it sells on normal bookshelves and is a bestseller.
Debbie does Dallas has probably sold more copies than Harry blinkin' Potter. Doesnt make it more credible or socially acceptable so unsure as to why this book is different!
Oh and have to say, the conversations about it by the middle aged women in my office are creeping me out. Its like listening to my Mum talk about reading p*rn. Euuuuuyuk!
I am far from being a prude lol..... FAR from it! But it does bother me that this is basically trying to make a dirty sex book something "more"..... and i am pretty sure it isn't!Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?0 -

Now you have some ideas.
Done and done!
My poor OH has been subjected to me a few times lol!
It is just like trashy tv, its good to keep the old brain occupied! I enjoyed it though, i'm not into big "fabulous" books written by people who I have no idea what they are saying, when I do get the chance to read a book I just want to chill out, I don't want to spend all day trying to fgure out whats going on!
I'm looking forward t the next book but I think a film is a step to far...how the hell is that gonna work? Its not !!!!!! but it's not exactly suitable for certain people is it??? Plus i have a picture of what Grey looks like and i don't ant it ruinedSaving money like a trouper...0 -
Well I read the 1st one (borrowed from library) and picked up the 2nd one day (again from library) and had abit o a conversation with the staff there about this.
As I said its ok but there's no way would I tell someone that they must read it (btw my must reads are We need to talk about Kevin, The Room, Sister, Me before You and Yesterday's Sun)
As for the film - well I'm going to save my £6 and not bother - Hollywood has a nasty habit of taking a good book and making a god awful film (think One Day and We need to talk about Kevin) goodness knows what dogs dinner they will make of this rubbish2014 Target;

Really struggling with the writing style, as others have said, too M & B with sex for me.Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

Havent read this whole thread as ive only just spotted it but i just wanted to say i cant believe that most of the general public are acting like this is something brand new.
I was reading the Black Lace books in the "90s and they were much saucier and better written.
Black Lace are relaunching in September.0 -

But I do remember reading "Riders" aged about 16 and I still remember that book now.Good book and to a 16 year old, some decent raunchy bits. Although the lead woman often seemed a bit dull.
