What a load of utter rubbis. Cliched and predictable story line actually make that a totally rubbish storyline to boot!

Yet another example of totally unrealistic expectations being put on women (and men)....she is a virgin....first time she has s£x she orgasms twice just by having vaginal s3x. yeah right.......what sort of a message does that send. Either you are a failure as a woman who can't live up to this or failure as a man for not being able to bring your woman to spontaneous orgasm.

    Really gets on my pip!!!!!!

    Best review. In my opinion.

Here's a brief list of the many lessons this novel has taught me.

    1. People in Seattle, USA talk exactly the same as in Surrey, UK.

    2. University-educated women still wear pink PJ's with fluffy bunnies on them.

    3. University-educated women say 'Oh my God!', 'Crap!' and 'Double crap!' more times hourly than a teenage male thinks about sex daily.

    4. A 'mega-industrialist tycoon' talks like a character from Le Morte D'Arthur...

    5. ...and has time to spend his day ceaselessly e-mailing.

    6. Newcomers to oral sex have no gag reflex.

    7. The more ham-fisted allusions to Thomas Hardy, the more gravitas.

    8. Forcing the word 'dearest' as many, many times as possible into a sentence really, really, improves it.

    9. Spelling out your theme for the reader in every third chapter is an adroit strategy.

    10. A sub's contract needs 3 appendices.

    11. Orgasms feel like 'a spin cycle'.

    12. A sentence like 'He's my very own Christian Grey-flavored popsicle' is deathless.
  • Someone advise me of a decent SM fiction novel then?

It's for my OH, although I might read it first to check there's nothing in there she's not allowed to read :D

haha If you want something well written albeit quite heavily BDSM-esque WikedKitten's suggestion of Anne Rice's Beauty series is a good idea. The female character is a lot stonger than "Ana" too.

As for 50 shades, I didn't realise that it was fanfic before I read it, but you could definitely tell. I've only read book one, but I finished the Twilight series out of sheer stubborness in a "this can't get any worse surely?.. oh wait..". I can see this going the same way!

I'm so glad I found this thread. I thought it was just me that found these books sooo Mills & Boonsy, with all the oohs, aahs and lipbiting.

I hadn't even heard of them until someone at work mentioned their very used copy!

I haven't read the third book yet, but probably will, if just to find out what happens to Christians first ladyfriend (aka the child molester).

For those of you that are yet to read them, there is an android app that you can use to download them for nowt.

Despite what everyone has said they are still worth a quick flick through so atleast you know what everyone is talking about.

I enjoyed the trilogy despite the constant sex! However memories of a very well spent youth reminded me of how often sex occurred........
    I digress ;).
The trilogy has benefited from all the hype but for readers unaccustomed to SM practices I felt its a gentle beginning. I am looking forward to the film/s

Haven't read it ,even though most of the women in my office are! From what I have heard about the books , Ryan Gosling would be perfect for the role of Mr Grey!

Excellent taste, but I can only pray that 'White Collar' keeps Mr.Bomer far too busy to be part of this heap of horse dung...
  • I read them, and tbh I have read more explicit Jackie Collins books.
The writing itself is very poor and I have this underlying fear that impressionable girls who read this may feel "obliged" to do some of the stuff mentioned (not that there is anything wrong in any of it, it's all personal choice) svengali springs to mind.
