Well it's time for a bump.

I've finished reading the Olivia Cunning books and I'm waiting impatiently for the next instalment. HEr books are a little more raunchy but they in no way aroused me more than the 50-shades books did. A lot of the sex scenes are raw and hard but it left little to the imagination and didn't build a tempo.

Can anyone recommend any further reading as I'm hooked on the stuff at the moment! Mayhap I should just read Romeo&Juliet as I'm hooked on the romance part.

Off to send my OH a cheeky e-mail! Be back to check the thread soon :D

Now take him (oh my ;)) and put him in a trailer park with no job, a beer gut, a bed with broken springs and a 'toy box' under it. Now he's a dirty perv :rotfl:.

I read them because of the hype. Wasn't exactly life enhancing but I found some parts interesting. Basically though she didn't have the guts to see through her fantasies. As to what he looks like:

    THIS End of argument :D.

Back to Jeffrey Deaver methinks :).

I clicked on your link and the first thing that came up was 'edible pedal bike'. :rotfl:

I've not read it either. But I'm sick of hearing about it on Facebook. I've noticed that it was all the women who read all the Twilight stuff whos raving about it.
Personally, from what I have heard about it, I reckon the Dulux paint catalogue sounds a more interesting read. AND they do more than 50 shades of any colour, not just grey :p:rotfl:

Same here. The reviews of heard from some friends is that it's really poorly written.

It is also derogatory to, well, a lot of people - male, female, S&M practitioners etc, and the general consensus is that it conveys a lot of incorrect information about the world of S&M too.

If you are a naive 12 year old this would be the case.

By the way I'm not insinuating you are!

The book is a fantasy, a love story, a tale of emotional triumph over turmoil. Yes it's lacking in vocab, and a bit similar throughout but there is a reason it is such a hit and selling out. Don't let the snob or anti-snob value get to you and give it your own take. It in no way portrays S&M as bad IMO. It portrays that you shouldn't attempt to do it on someone who isn't ready, and for that I agree. Just in the same way you wouldn't expect to teach A-level maths to a 3 year old!

The female character is a little needy in it but this isn't a women's rights revolutionary book. There are some women like this, I've met them! Hell I've had relationships with one. This doesn't mean every woman on the planet is like Ms Steele nor does it mean every man on the planet is Mr Grey! 0- sheesh. :rotfl::A

I've just finished the Sinners on Tour books too! :D Got the next one on pre-order for my Kindle, but it's released when I'm on holiday so I'll have to make sure I get hooked up to the hotel wi-fi so it downloads! :rotfl:

Agree about the dirty stuff, TBH I was quite shocked at the start of the book but then I kind of got used to it and by the end I'd become somewhat immune to it. :p

Trying to read a 'normal' book now though and I'm thinking, 'Where are the bedroom antics Mrs Writer?!' :rotfl:

It's not about being a snob. Despite my own grammatical f**k ups, I can't stand reading other peoples, or having to read something substantial with such a limited use of vocab. Rightly, or wrongly, it annoys me so much. To the point where I just wouldn't be able to enjoy it, would become annoyed and just throw it away. So I feel it would be a waste of money, personally.

Maybe I can attribute that one to my English teacher, who made me work hard on improving my own vocabulary. She would point out how often I had overused a word or phrase, in every single peice of writing I submitted. I guess I now do the same.

Besdies, I'd rather watch !!!!!! than read it. ;):D :rotfl:

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: And I (one for you!)

I hope I eluded to the fact that his book is not a literary masterpiece but is an interesting book. It is not !!!!!! - ha!

I didn't buy them (shame on me); I downloaded them but I have bought them now for my daughter's 21st:eek:. I am one of the biggest grammar Nazis (as my friends call me) that go but I still appreciated the books. I am a keen member of the Not-the-APS forum where I discuss all matters English and wrote a 60,000 page PhD.

Like I say, it takes all sorts :D :rotfl:

    PS - I prefer hands on! :eek::o
