How could he be reprimanded?
The Blue Badge Scheme does not apply on private property and a garden centre car park is almost certainly just that. Its the Equality Act that applies here and any person disabled under the act is entitled to use them as a "reasonable adjustment" BB or no BB. Never mind that disabled spaces on private land are just a courtesy and wholly unenforceable otherwise!
If you are going to have a go at people for "abusing" Blue Badges, you should really be familiar with the legislation or you run the risk of becoming yet another hateful, ignorant !!!!! yourself!
He wasn't abusing a blue badge as he didn't have one.
I find it incredible the number of postings on here that virtually leap to the defence of people acting in this manner. There may be no legal reason why trades people can't park in these spaces but I will always either complain to the management or, better still, if there is a number displayed on the van I will ring and make an official complaint.
Camera phones are a good tool as well. Following up the phone call with an emailed photograph is something very few employers will ignore as it is a very poor advertisement for their company.0 -

I may well be incorrect. I don't think that is a justification for using the word idiot.
Thank you, however, for enlightening me as to the correct method by which badges should be displayed.0 -
Not rubbish at all. All blue badges remain the property of the Local Authority that has issued them. They are not the property of the person they are issued to. If someone feels a blue badge is being abused, for example, if they see a fit looking young couple parking in a bay reserved for a disabled person and choose to look at the blue badge displayed in that car's windscreen, that is up to the individual. If that badge displayed a photo of one of the young people referred to in the scenario I've described, I would leave well alone. If, however, the photo was of someone else, I would take down details and report a potential abuse to the Local Authority. Doing so helps ensure the availability of disabled parking spaces for people who actually need them.
If anyone has been abused in the street about their use of a blue badge, all they have to do is call the police.
Goodness me some people don't understand the concept of this at all. Who are any of you to say who is deserving of a blue badge. And for the record young people can be disabled, and there are things called hidden disabilities that are not always apparent. Some people may look fit as a fiddle but are not and are in deep pain. Its ignorant and shortsighted to think just because you are young your immune to disability.
You don't seem to see the point many have been making do you? If you do not have long term evidence of abuse backed up with medical evidence you should not be shopping people you do not know the first thing about.
And it does not make things easier for disabled people to park if you remove them from people who are using them fraudulently. There are over 2.5 million in circulation and the majority of them are in the right hands. They are hard to get very hard.

People are not defending them but merely stating that the manner reports are made in and by the people making them is open to abuse and misuse. It undermines the fight against Blue Badge fraud. It assumes that everyone who has a disability is an expert that every citizen has a moral obligation to report regardless of tenuous circumstances. Its a system that is flawed, really flawed but by bogging down the system it makes it harder for authorities top put in place systems of checks and balances.
Also taking pictures of other peoples property and distributing it and its retention without security could be deemed contrary to the data protection act and unlawful.
As I said in a previous postings, use common sense, Treat people correctly who have disabled blue badges. Quite often people forget on the other end of their tirade is a human being and more often than not a very ill human being, some it maybe a rare outing out. So please stop getting peoples backs up and think before you speak. :money:0 -
Sadly there are plenty of racist, homophobic, sexist and examples of disability hate out there. Usually the causing of Daily Mail / Express reading nutters. ................................................................................
The most worrying thing I find is that most examples of discrimination or hate crime I have witnessed are based in ignorance or lies. People seem to read the tabloid press and believe everything to be true. It's quite frightening when you see just how uneducated and without logical thought most people are. Like sheep, all without the capability to form their own judgements.
I guess however many laws protect people and however frowned upon racism, homophobia, sexism or disability hate becomes, you will always get stupid people who have an agenda and wish to hurt and embarrass people whenever they can.
All I can say to you disabled guys and gals is chin up and always remember just how much hate a person has to have inside to think walking upto disabled people and calling them scroungers is worth it.
Although I agree with your sentiments, it appears you feel it is perfectly OK for you to use a highly offensive term about people with mental health issues.
People in glass houses etc etcI don't know if I'm getting better or just used to the pain.

But I thought this thread was about people not making judgments and being so cheeky as to ask about whether someone has a badge?
Like another poster says, the guy driving the PO van may well have had a BB, what business was it of yours to ask?
Hypocritical in the extreme imoWhen your life is a mess, stop and think what you are doing before bringing more kids into it, it's not fair on them.

Omg a lot of these posts make me scared to even consider applying for one!!
Ihave CFS. And spend a lot of time in pain and being severely exhausted but to look at me you wouldn't think there is anything wrong as I don't spend all day telling evetyone how I really feel or ATM use crutches as drs not let me have any yet
All you would see is me walking a bit oddly and very slowly, so to those who feel the need to report I'm guessing would do or would hav a go at me.
It amazes me that some many do get attacked or attack others about some who it's non of thier business
To those who feel they must stick thier ore in how about not doing sodas you have no idea about the daily struggles a person goes through and to be confronted by someone who has. No authority to judge is bang out of order!
The only people who have a right to question is the police, PCSOs, street wardens or traffic wardens so leave it to them to do thier job.I love War Of The Worlds:heart2:

He didn't have one. End of story.
As far as I am concerned, there is no way anybody should challenge anybody displaying a BB as there is no way you can tell if they should have one or not.
If a BB is not being displayed then an approach along the lines of "excuse me but I see you are not displaying a BB" is very acceptable and MIGHT (I realise I am being optomistic here) just MIGHT make them think twice about doing it again.
If the person has forgotten to display it, then they cannot possibly take offence if asked in a polite manner.
If we all did it, then it might help to keep the spaces clear for genuine users.0 -

Dont let people on here dictate your decision to apply for one Isis, if you need one which it sounds like you do. Apply for one, but if someone challenges you outside of local parking enforcement officers and Police (they rarely do) dont engage with them, they are not worth getting upset over. Walk away, if you feel the need log what was said by the other person at the earliest possible convenience, perhaps even report it to some i.e if you are in a store car park report it to customer services, they may have been reported before and an arrest could be made for at least a breach of the peace or if it is off severity disabled hate crime. You are protected by law if people get on your back just in case they think wrongly people dont have hidden disabilities.
Dont let ignorant people judge or dictate your life, disabled people want to get out and about the blue badge scheme helps them with that,no one should fear applying or using the badges just because they may get agro off others who should know better.
Sometimes I feel that some disabled people just take their situation out on others, in a way it's a form of abuse. Every time you challenge people aggressively its nothing more than bulling and abuse. As i have said no one has the right to abuse vulnerable people in this way as the OP had suffered. Isis only you know your body, only you know how much pain you are going through, so long as you know that the people closest too are aware then that should be that, no one has the right to judge you on your disability. Good Luck Isis :money:0 -
