  • Unfortunately, if you take public money you should be under public scrutiny.

I want to make sure the money I pay to the government is being spent appropriately.

How very judgemental are you!!! my husband worked for forty years, never claimed a thing in his life. He now has a serious illness and has been given a blue badge, he doesnt look disabled..

He paid into the system all his working life, and, if somebody like you challenged him I would not be very pleased and would most definateley let you know how displeased I was!!

Sadly there are plenty of racist, homophobic, sexist and examples of disability hate out there. Usually the causing of Daily Mail / Express reading types.

The most worrying thing I find is that most examples of discrimination or hate crime I have witnessed are based in ignorance or lies. People seem to read the tabloid press and believe everything to be true. It's quite frightening when you see just how people seem to just believe things without looking into them.

I guess however many laws protect people and however frowned upon racism, homophobia, sexism or disability hate becomes, you will always get stupid people who have an agenda and wish to hurt and embarrass people whenever they can.

All I can say to you disabled guys and gals is chin up and always remember just how much hate a person has to have inside to think walking upto disabled people and calling them scroungers is worth it.

    :)

Luckily for me, I put far more into the system than I take out, so I don't need to justify myself to you. I'm willing to bet that, judging by your attitude, you are a net drain on the system.

What's luckily for me mean I put far more into the system, just to let you know the majority of us do,but thank the heavens they don't have the attitude like yours.

Why don't you need to justify yourself, but you expect disabled people too....WHY.???????????????????????

Well I asked to see the blue badge of a guy sat smoking in a post office van parked in the last available space in the garden centre we visited today. He was really abusive - said he was there to make a collection. So I reported him. Hope he gets an official reprimand.

What is it you want him reprimanded for?
When your life is a mess, stop and think what you are doing before bringing more kids into it, it's not fair on them.

The Blue Badge Scheme does not apply on private property and a garden centre car park is almost certainly just that. Its the Equality Act that applies here and any person disabled under the act is entitled to use them as a "reasonable adjustment" BB or no BB. Never mind that disabled spaces on private land are just a courtesy and wholly unenforceable otherwise!

If you are going to have a go at people for "abusing" Blue Badges, you should really be familiar with the legislation or you run the risk of becoming yet another hateful, ignorant !!!!! yourself!

It doesnt need to be against the law to be morally wrong though does it!

Morally maybe. However, the way many many (if not most) car park owners/operators manage their disabled parking is quite beyond the pale to begin with and relying on a BB as any sort of "proof" of disability is quite irrelevant and illegal to begin with.

As odd as it might seem to some people, a chap in our town drives for the Royal Mail and has a blue badge. He drives an adapted van as he lost a leg amongst other bits in a bomb blast whilst in the army in Iraq. So it is not impossible for someone who works for the Royal Mail to have a blue badge - the chap you accosted may just have forgotten to display it and got an earful for his sins - no wonder he got abusive!!

In anycase as mentioned above on private land the blue badge is not required anyway.

Totally Rubbish, no person has the right to inspect anyone's blue badge outside of the police force or enforcement officers. And yes I have a objection to trigger happy people with no disability training reporting people they believe are being disingenuous about their disability. You could be putting undue stress on vulnerable people, for some it may push them over the edge.

Why should people have to justify their disabilities to joe blogs? Infact people who falsely report and cause problems for others by taking the details should be prosecuted for wasting police time.

Oh and if someone comes and gives you a mouth full simple solution as in nuisance calls, just walk away.

Not rubbish at all. All blue badges remain the property of the Local Authority that has issued them. They are not the property of the person they are issued to. If someone feels a blue badge is being abused, for example, if they see a fit looking young couple parking in a bay reserved for a disabled person and choose to look at the blue badge displayed in that car's windscreen, that is up to the individual. If that badge displayed a photo of one of the young people referred to in the scenario I've described, I would leave well alone. If, however, the photo was of someone else, I would take down details and report a potential abuse to the Local Authority. Doing so helps ensure the availability of disabled parking spaces for people who actually need them.

If anyone has been abused in the street about their use of a blue badge, all they have to do is call the police.
