The fact is we're piggy backing on the slowest network around.
If we were a virtual network on EE I bet our speeds would be faster solely because EE is a lot faster in itself

.Per second? I find that difficult to believe! If it was just about anyone else on this board I'd be presuming you've been mixing up your Mb with your MB :)

I find Ovivo Mobile unusable for data, so I use Ovivo for just calls and texts, and because my phone is dual sim, I use Samba Mobile (3 Mobile) for data.

I used the Onavo Extend app to speed up the data but not by much and found that sticking the phone on E (2G) was sometimes faster than H+ (3G) ?!

Once the call quality deteriorated and calls started going to voicemail without ringing, I ported out to 3. I only get 2/3 bars on 3 but the data is much faster and the calls don't breakup or drop like they did on OVIVO.

    Can anybody help with this.

I have a Motorola Moto G (on the ovivo network) and recently the gmail email notification will only work on wi-fi.

I have googled and checked all my settings etc but still can't get to the bottom of it.

It's getting as annoying as the pitiful data speeds.

There's an active Motor G thread so why put that question on here?

Because it's the ovivo network that sems to be the problem.
  • OK, I think this is ridiculous. Let us gather some stats on what speeds people are getting around the country. I have started a new thread for this purpose. Go here and post your stats!

If you haven't seen it, we now have the explanation for the poor data speeds.

As most of you know, you will see an Ovivo Now page with advertising after browsing a couple of pages. It is only once this page has been displayed and you have clicked Continue that more normal data speeds open up.

With an advertising-subsidised service, this makes sense once you know about it. The slow speeds prior to the ad do not affect background services such as email in a major way.

As an example, I tested the speed at 0.09 Mbps downstream, then browsed a couple of pages until the ad was displayed, then tried the speed test again and got 3.6 Mbps.

That sounds sensible, but it's impossible to see that page if there is no data connection at all

Or it is impossible to find it using Google, if Google is blocked.
